Gabapentin and Cymbalta

Posted by jeanniem @jeanniem, Mar 15, 2021

I am taking 300mg of Gabapentin twice a day and my neurologist seems to feel pretty strongly that I add 30mg of Cymbalta. Does anyone else take this combo? I really hate adding new medications!

I was just just prescribed both of these. I’m afraid of the side affects and my doctor had the nerves to tell me to worry about them later as they come. I feel there is really no help for nerve pain with out taking something else out. 😰. I suffer on a daily with my Arms and hands im not diabetic.

Try cabs gummies or oils or balm. My sister has it bad in her feet and says it's wonderful. I also use them for my conditions (Ehlers Danlos hyper, Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, IBS, have had 3 back surgeries and a neck surgery due to Ehlers ) and it's been a blessing. No longer take pain meds or gabepentin.

Speaking from experience on gabepentin !! I feel it is a great drug for a short time use. Long term it causes lots of issues. It shut my stomach down (gastroparisis) for 3 years. I got off it and am now back to living and loving life. We need to get off the "pill" kick in America and start taking control of our lives. Lifestyle changes are in order not more pills. I took back my life--lots of doctors not happy with me but just cause they don't write scripts for me no more and I don't have to see them every other week anymore. Can't express it enough LIFESTYLE CHANGE ! What we fuel our bodies with affects every aspect of daily living. Bless you and hope you get relief.

I agree that all of probably do have SOMETHING in their lifestyle that we can change to better ourselves and conditions. I was by no means perfect, but I was in peak form when I got blindsided one day by my idiopathic PN, which put me in a wheelchair chair for 6 months before I was able to climb out of it. Lifestyle changes would have meant that I should have run/biked exercised less, eaten more fried foods, gained weight, or started smoking or doing illegal drugs. No doctor or other person would have advised me to do that. But when the disease hit me, and took away my ability to exercise as I once did, I made changes like eliminating my weekly glass of wine, praying more, and taking doctor’s advice on Gabapentin. Nothing else could reach that internal nerve pain.
So I was set back, and put on an entirely new journey, with brand new goals and objectives. Your advice is right on so many levels. Today I need to see what physical therapy and exercises help me balance and keep strength. There are new nutritional ideas to help what ails us. I agree that some doctors are easier to push pills, and none of my doctors EVER mentioned alternative therapies and support groups.
But I found this wonderful forum on my own, and have learned so many things from other folks here, from exercises, medicines, oils & lotions, socks & shoes, alternative therapies, and most importantly, what I needed the most and am still trying to learn: positive thinking!
I like your thinking and your message, we don’t have a condition that pills can cure, and we should expect to make lifestyle changes in order to make our lives simpler, so we need to help ourselves! However, many of us have tried to go without Gabapentin and even with positive lifestyle changes, Gabapentin provided the best nerve pain (or numbness, tingling, temperature) relief. Praying for all of us to find the right formula to live with our conditions and enjoy life to its fullest!

Yes I agree also with you. It's a puzzling condition and I by no means am putting anyone down for how they get relief but just from experience on gabepentin want to forewarn others. It made me deathly I'll. I went from vibrant and strong 150 lb person down to a frail 104 lb sickly weak and couldn't hardly move from couch to my own bathroom in a matter of a cop years. It shut down my stomach and was not absorbing any nutrients and was actual after a period of time making me hurt worse than perform I took it. Just want all to BEWARE just as any other drugs have side affects so does this one. Best of luck to you on your healthy life journey. One other comment this drug had me so whack out in the head and body I felt I couldn't do without it !! But today I am better than I have been in over 20 yrs. I found a holistic doctor that actually cared about me and my well being. I have helped many others realize this drug tricks your brain ( just like alcohol or other illicit drugs) just cause it's legal by the FDA standards does not mean it is good for you. Just thoughts to ponder on. I don't wish to hurt or harm anyone in their journey. I just know what it has done to me and countless others. I feel they put new drugs out there way to fast and don't know what the long term side effects are to them. Then they recall or take them off the market AFTER its too late and harmed countless of innocent people. God bless and many prayers to you and all for finding the help that is right for you.

I understand! And thanks for sharing your warnings, it is valuable for all to know when partnering in their care, as many here have had bad reactions and we need to make sure we question our doctors and make sure we’re monitored. I am glad I’m only on Gabapentin for this condition- I had to refuse others. I love your holistic approach and glad you found a good team for your journey. Some of us are still looking for the right players, but you are encouraging me to push on and stay motivated and energized!

Hi, I'm John. I've been taking Gabba for several yrs now at 3600mg daily. I'm now tapering back a bit to see if it feels ok. No side effects. Maybe each body reacts in its own way.

I forgot to mention that I was in braces all over my body also. I lived in a neck, back , hip, feet, elbows, and finger braces for over a year. Within 6 months of getting off gabepentin I was no longer wearing any of them and fighting my way back to health. It's been 2 years now brace free. Living and loving life again. Also I was very suicidal on it. Within 2 months off it I regain my clarity and love for living despite all my illness. I praise God everyday for my new found freedom !! I've been struggling for 40 yrs with some sort of issue. Im so blessed to have my life back again. I just have so much compassion and hope all others who suffer can find their freedom to live again as I have. Just to put out there IMY age is 56 yrs old. Thank you for chatting with me. I sincerest hope for all to find relief as I have.

The pain is unbearable. But decide if it’s worth a try. It may help. I just started gabapentin Monday and Cymbalta. It does seem to effect my stomach. I have Gerd on top of everything else.

Thank you for the info.
I have heard too many bad things about it so I won't take it but that gabapentin is making me dingy.
I forget & the words wont come out of my mouth. It is embarrassing when your speaking to someone.
There is nothing they can do for Neuropathy. They need to do more study on it.

I’m willing to take anything that may help with this horrible neuropathy. I took Nortriptyline and it was like knives stabbing my whole body. I passed out from the pain.

When you say GABA? Do you mean Gabapentin? Has it helped you?

Hi
I take 900 mg of gabapentin
300 morning
300 evening
300 bedtime
It helps I guess but I have to increasing it & I don't like that.
I also take Cymbalta 60mg. & the dr. seems to think that is what is helping me the most.
This is a terrible condition & nothing helps.
Best of luck to you.
