Brachioradial pruritus. (severe itching on forearms and neck, no rash).

Does anyone know of this. I think its rare but does exist. My neurologist does not know about this. I have compression between my c5 and c6 cervical disk and have had alot of sun damage to my skin.

Hi @needahelp, I included the links below to both the Mayo website for pruritis and Cleveland Clinic. 🙂 I hope you find some helpful information. How long have you been diagnosed?

Thank you! I have been to many doctors including allergy doctors & no one was able to help. I also saw a neurologist who gave me a cream that had lidocaine, but it burned & I had to wash it off! I have found three foods that I’m sensitive to:bananas, oats, & toma. That has helped.

Try eucerin skin calming cream. I am also trying Moringa oil as the suggestion of another member.

The cream has oatmeal & that makes me itch😝. Please let us know if the moringa oil works. Also, if it has a smell! For some strange reason, smells bother me!

I use these lotions daily when I have an outbreak. a. My basic SuperGoop sunscreen on my arms, face, body, etc. b. I also use CeraVie Itch ReMoisturing Lotion. Not scented. c. In the PM I use Originial Sarna External Analgesic Lotion. It's anti itch formula. It has a bit of a scent, but after I rub it in, the smell fades. I am a super smeller, so can relate to smells bothering me. Because the Sarna works, I put it on and rub it in an hour or so before I go to bed. All of these have been recommended to me by my Dermatologist. My cervical spine doc simply recommends ice until we would need to do (God forbid) a nerve block in the future.

Thank you! One Dermatologist gave me a sack of different lotions to try , it took a year, but none worked. Elta M.D. worked for four months & then it didn’t. I’ve tried organic coconut oil, vitamin E, organic almond oil, organic borage oil-they just make it worse. It’s more a sting or burn than an itch. I haven’t found a doctor that is even interested in trying to help me. One Dermatologist (in a larger city) sent me to an allergy specialist who tested me for things like nickel & we found that I’m very sensitive to nickel & sever other things like fragrance. This doctor sent me to another doctor at a well known medical center who thought that it is either a nerve problem or one of my meds. The Neurologist didn’t seem to find a problem.

Good evening @jal333. Today, my dermatologist advised that I wrap my arms with saran wrap after using Sarna. That ensures that the Sarna gets to the source of the itch. I am in the middle of another flare now so will give it a try. Just an FYI.

May you be safe and protected.

That's what I thought at first @help22 Then I remembered that my niece was born with infant psoriasis. This was in about 1970. We applied a topical of some kind and then wrapped her little body in saran wrap. It worked. (Isn't it amazing that I can remember the incident and products and cannot remember what day it is today.

May you have happiness and the causes of happiness.

Hi @help22. Welcome to Mayo Connect, a place where we all share our medical experiences and look for understanding of our problems, hopes, and aspiration for healthy living -- not to recommend diagnoses or treatments, which are the province of highly education medical professionals whom we seek as team mates. I hope you have had the time to review the postings on this discussion about Brachioradial pruritis. Even so, you may wish to check up on this posting from the Cleveland Clinic on the subject: https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/21181-brachioradial-pruritus. Let me know whether this source of information is helpful in tracking down the questions you could put to your health care physician(s). Martin

Hi @anne12. Glad you called on me for some input, but my personal experience is not going to be very helpful to you -- first because it turned out that dry skin, not brachioradial pruritus was my problem and, second, a good moisturizer put the problem behind me. I will say, though, that you may get some help and insights from https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/21181-brachioradial-pruritus, which I cited in the post you referenced. Is there anything in that article that gives you hope for relief? Martin
