Brachioradial pruritus. (severe itching on forearms and neck, no rash).

Does anyone know of this. I think its rare but does exist. My neurologist does not know about this. I have compression between my c5 and c6 cervical disk and have had alot of sun damage to my skin.

I have had horrible itching, stinging, burning on my arms for over 10 years now. I have been to every kind of doctor imaginable. I diagnosed myself with brachioradial puritis after searching the internet. Only one doctor that I have seen even knew what it was and that was a dermatologist. He knew what it was and also knew there was nothing he could offer to help me. I have tried every kind of cream on the market and nothing helps. As everyone with this condition knows the only thing that helps is ICE! It first started on my forearms and now it is all the way to my shoulders. I have had several injections in my neck to chiropractic care. Nothing helps. I just can't believe there is not someone out there that can't find a cure for this debilitating condition.

Hi @help22. Welcome to Mayo Connect, a place where we all share our medical experiences and look for understanding of our problems, hopes, and aspiration for healthy living -- not to recommend diagnoses or treatments, which are the province of highly education medical professionals whom we seek as team mates. I hope you have had the time to review the postings on this discussion about Brachioradial pruritis. Even so, you may wish to check up on this posting from the Cleveland Clinic on the subject: https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/21181-brachioradial-pruritus. Let me know whether this source of information is helpful in tracking down the questions you could put to your health care physician(s). Martin

I have a similar condition, Aquagenic puritus, there is a Facebook group that discovered the Beta Alanine, which is usually used as a workout supplement and sold over the counter, works really well at controlling the itch. Who knows but it might help your issue as well...I’ve been taking it for 3 years with no issues...I take 750mg with any sign of itch and 1500 mg when I know it will be triggered...like before a shower.

Felt compelled to reply... I stumbled to this site looking for new info on BRP (=bracchioradial pruiritis)... as it is making me go mad, mad, mad! I can totally relate to "cry, scream, meltdowns" too. It is so maddening!! For those looking for temporary relief, my go tos, here in Canada, are: Xylocaine 5% (which I think may be Lidocaine in US)... this numbs your arms (but takes an hour to take effect, i find) and Stopain!, which is a strong menthol-type roll-on cream that feels super cold... so cold that it hurts a little (but at least you don't feel itchy). Hope this helps someone.
As for next steps, for me, I'm booking an appointment at chiropractor. Hopefully he'll take xrays and see something? Or perhaps an "alignment" of my spine will help? I'm desperate! Keep looking for answers people!!

I have the same symptoms. It is just horrible. I have been to a chiropractor for manipulation of my neck. It did not help. The itching is horrible. There are no signs of anything on my skin until I start scratching then there are bumps and they scab over. They look like something bit me. They take forever to heal up. I have been to every doctor imaginable. My doctor has referred me to a cannabis type doctor now. I will let u know what happens.

Hello, I have this exact diagnosis - same everything, no rash, severe SEVERE itching on forearm(left only) issues with my neck, and sun damage. I want to find out all I can regarding this - I am going INSANE with the itching. Only thing so far that TEMPORARILY takes the itch away is ICE.....

Morninga oil get the purest you can find. I believe it’s damaged nerves from sun but I don’t know for sure. Turns out morninga oil heals nerves even topical. It worked for me! Please buy some you can get it online but make sure it’s pure! Rub it on the areas until penetrated a few times a day until gone! Bless you all and thank me later! Xo
