Brachioradial pruritus. (severe itching on forearms and neck, no rash).

Does anyone know of this. I think its rare but does exist. My neurologist does not know about this. I have compression between my c5 and c6 cervical disk and have had alot of sun damage to my skin.

@mannix

Have you tried accupuncture?

I am so sorry. The itching can be terrible. I would trade it for pain any day! Over the years I have tried Lyrica, capsaicin cream 4 times a day, massive doses of Benedryl, accupuncture, etc...
I currently take 400 mg of Gabapentin 3 times a day and an antidepressant.
Ice packs help temporarily.
Being legally blind is terrible on top of this.
Perhaps try the Calm app for daily meditation/relaxation. Yoga too.
You sound like a sympathetic husband which is a huge help to your wife.
I wish you and your wife all the best.

Thank you so much for your kind reply. We are both in our 70's - me being older 🙁 but we have managed this problem for a long time now and we do what we can. Thank you again.

Try Beta-Alanine. You can buy it at GNC or on Amazon. A member of the group Aquagenic Puritis came across it by accident. Aquagenic Puritis has the same symptoms and conditions, but is caused by exposure to water or sweat. I take one tablet in the morning and one before a shower. Good luck to you both.

I have had the horrible skin problem of brachial radial puritis for over 10 years. The itching, burning, biting and constant daily dealing with this is terrible and painful. Many times I have to head home as I cannot be in public- it is overwhelming. I’ve tried Gabapentin with no luck, every possible anti-itch cream, specially formulated prescription creams, several other drugs and Lyrica. Nothing helps except for ice. I sleep on ice packs every night and keep emergency ice packs in my car. I have seen 5 dermatologists from USC and UCLA with no real solutions although they tried. My neck has crushed vertebrae C3 & C4 which causes some of my problems. Living in CA Los Angeles heat does not help but I’m very active and kind of have to be outside to live here in our sunny weather. If only someone could help all of us with this.

I have had this condition for years, but it only occurs sporadically. My left forearm will have the maddening itch that has been described so well by others on this site, also with no rash. I have Thoracic Outlet Syndrome and degenerative disc disorder, and have had lower back surgery for fusion of L3/L4. Creams do not help but ice seems to temporarily alleviate the symptoms. Scratching the itch makes it MUCH worse. I have not seen my doctor, as I though it was just a rash, but the pain and itching right now is almost too much to bear, so I started researching and found all this information on BRP. I spoke today with a chiropractor I have seen before, and have an appointment for next Wednesday. I will keep you posted on progress ...
