Brachioradial pruritus. (severe itching on forearms and neck, no rash).

Does anyone know of this. I think its rare but does exist. My neurologist does not know about this. I have compression between my c5 and c6 cervical disk and have had alot of sun damage to my skin.

Hi @lelizabeth how frustrating for you. And for everyone else in thus forum ! I came across this after searching high and low for some help with my symptoms. I had a bout of about 6 months itch on both forearms this was about 2 years ago, thank goodness it eventually went away on its own but in the last few months it has returned with vengance ! It started as a small localised itch to a small part of my forearm and within a few weeks has spread to my upper arm and hand. Im pregnant so not much I can take right now to alleviate but sleeping at night is becoming harder and harder. Ice is the only remedy. I’m in Australia and my dermatologist said I should go and see a Physio who might be able to stretch out my right back / neck. I’ve never experienced any issues with my spine or anything so it just seems so random. Once I’ve had the baby I’d love some advice about what I can do to help get rid of this maddening thing. Thank goodness to find a group of people who actually understand this rare condition.

I wanted to add to this discussion in case it would benefit anyone. Itching is a form of pain at the low end of the pain scale, and that pain can be caused by inflammation, but also by nerve compression. If you have an issue with tight muscles or poor posture with abnormal body mechanics, it might be a physical issue that a physical therapist could help. I have thoracic outlet syndrome which make my shoulders go forward and the front of my chest wall muscles are too tight. I've had itching in my scapula area, and forearm pain and itching too, but my recent physical therapy session that is working on getting my scapulas back into a normal position by strengthening the muscles that hold it, is helping me. If anyone can relate to something like that, a PT evaluation might be a good next step. My PT also does myofascial release work that stretches the overly tight fascia. See myofascialrelease.com for info.

Good point.

I forgot to mention that I was already seen by a neurologist, neurosurgeon, and several physical therapists. I had spinal xrays and a spinal mri and an EMG. The docs rules out any underlying medical issues, and diagnoses, and the PT didn’t help.

But important to rule out in those areas.

I’m happy to share what seems to be working for me. For 3 days now, I have had no itching during the day and sleeping then the night (finally) using a CBD cream. I had been using it for back pain relief and decided to try it on my arm. I pray that it continues!

That is great!

I tried that too, but it didn’t work for me, but you know, we are all so different.....and CBD oil works for many people.

Does your CBD oil have THC in it?

Be careful if you’re on heart meds-it can interfere.

Thanks- no heart meds- I only take the Lexapro for partial relief of the itching - so if the PIT injections work, I could be medicine- free.

I think when people get on do many medications, it becomes difficult to discern what is triggering what:(

That’s great! Please keep us posted! How can I find a doctor who knows about the PET injections? What state are you in?

You can google Lyftogt and there is a list there. You also want to choose one who has experience and success using this.

I live in MD; I will see this one next week and he does have quite a bit of experience and success with this. I know there is a very good one in Orlando, FL.

I’m in Texas! Any suggestions on how to find a knowledgeable doctor? My new dermatologist asked right away if I have problems with my cervical spine. I had an MRI on Friday, but haven’t heard the results. I’m taking Gabapentin & it seems to help. I’m still having burning after my nightly shower. I think that I have dry skin, but putting lotion on my upper arms starts the burning. My legs haven’t been a problem for for 4 months! When the burning gets too uncomfortable, I take a sleeping pill! Is Lyftogy the Injection?
