Transplant: Tacrolimus, What’s Your Target Range?

Posted by hello1234 @hello1234, Jun 26, 2022

Hi Transplants!
I am a two year anniversary kidney transplant and my Tacronlimis target range is currently 6 to 8. (When I was newly transplanted my Tacronlimis range was 8 to 10.) I am curious if anyone's Tacronlimis range is lower than 6 to 8 and at what stage was it lowered? Please let me know your experience.
Many thanks! 😊

Hi @l0lag0lag0b3 😊
Is it possible that your abdomen pain during activity is caused by the mesh from your previous hernia surgery before transplant? Or just because you have a new kidney in that area now? (Without a bulge, I wouldn't think this is a new hernia).
Hi @jackie421blfdgurl 😊
Our friend l0lag0lag0b3 has a few questions about your successful hernia surgery....
Did a general surgeon fix your incisional hernia after your liver transplant? And if the hernia surgery was done at Mt. Sinai, was it done with with your transplant team's coordination? ....and were you happy with the result? Thanks Jackie!

Hello...the surgeon that did the liver transplant
Also did the hernia repair. My liver team was totally informed.the mensch implant and sewing of muscle..skin...etc was done by a very very handsome plastic surgeon ..he explained the area will expand and go back..! I had no pain from hernia ...just a bludge that was annoying...and yes surgery was at My. Sinai.
Happy...not so sure..doctors I believe did s great job sewing me back up..did not do a new scare used the same cut from liver. This was only done 6 mos. After liver so I was still healing from that!!!
But last June for hernia and yr. and a half for liver.i feel ok...no complaints.thankful...😍

@jackie421blfdgurl 😊 I am living in the sunshine state. Very humid and hot today....it's going to be another month of large air conditioning electric bills now that most days have a "feels like 101" temperature. (I know New York can have the same problem in summer).
Happy July 4th! I am headed to the supermarket now to buy some "not good for us" hot dogs and mustard, decorated cupcakes, etc! LOL
🌭🍔🥨🧁🍨🍦 The holiday is my excuse to be bad today..... Enjoy!!

Hi @cehunt57 😊 Everytime I see your posts are you remind us that you are 17 years post pancreas transplant, I can't help but SMILE. It's so wonderful! How is everything else going with you? I think you were dealing with diverticulitis. Did that resolve after your visit in the hospital?

Jump to this post

@hello1234 diabetes, chronic kidney disease (CKD stage 4) are long term things with me plus related complications. The diabetes has been acting up lately but the CKD is stable. The diverticulitis is a new thing after a visit to emergency room. My primary doc is following that and says it will be “touch and go” for awhile until it settles.

@jennifer0726 Thanks so much for the book recommendation! Yes, I have seen book and article recommendations all over Mayo Connect in multiple groups so I am sure it's fine to mention a good book for summer reading.
I am always so happy when we get a chance to catch up. My fellow 2 year transplant sister! 😊

@hello1234, @jennifer1780 Yes, book recommendations are fine. The Mayo Connect Guidelines state that "No commercial postings, advertisements or solicitations. ( https://connect.mayoclinic.org/blog/about-connect/tab/community-guidelines/solicitations" )

Jennifer, I found a currently inactive discussion that contains some other books that have been shared. How about sharing your book recommendation there where others can see it in "Books about transplant: What are your book recommendations?"

Hi @hello1234, my creatinine was 1.77 6/13, which was up from March, but very similar to when I went for my one year. When I went home one month after tx it was 2.10. So I have never had that great of numbers post tx, but no rejection at either of my biopsies at 4 and 12 months. The low numbers may contribute to my lower energy. On another note, I have a favorite author Laura Bradbury who had a living liver tx due to PSC who wrote a rom/com called An Unlikely Match. If you are a reader it is interesting and entertaining read. She has written memoirs and fiction. I thought it might be a fun summer read for those who might identify. I hope this is allowed to share on here! 😊

my Tacrolimus target range is 4.5 or so and I've been keeping it for several years. I did liver transplant 15 years ago.

Hi @echo2022 😊
So great to meet you....Congrats on your 15 year liver transplant!! It sounds like your immune suppression "cocktail" is perfect for you! Do you take any additional immune suppression drugs with your Tacronlimis each day? (I think my local nephrologist would like to see my Tacronlimis at 4 to 5 eventually depending on the information regarding my match quality). I currently take 6mg Envarsus XR with my breakfast (and Cellcept bid). Do you take your pills with food or an empty stomach? Thanks so much for jumping into this discussion!

Anybody on .50 mg of Tacrolimus for liver tx
Is .50mg of Tacrolimus considered a low dose? Is anyone experiencing side effects from this dose? If so what are the side effects?
