MAC in sinuses + lungs?

Hi everyone! I’m looking for anyone else who has been diagnosed with MAC (abscessus) in their sinuses as well as MAC (avium) in their lungs? Thanks, blessings to all, Brenda

Brenda I have only been diagnosed with it in my lungs. However we are looking into the possibility it is in my sinuses as well. I had several dental implants in 2015. I have never been so sick or had such horrible sinus issues/infections including debilitating migraines since those implants. My entire family is convinced my lung MAC is from my frequent invasive dental surgeries over time. I will let you know. Irene

@ling123 TMJ causes the jaw muscle to clench your teeth and grind them when you sleep. That constant pressure affects how the roots of teeth feel.

Brenda I have only been diagnosed with it in my lungs. However we are looking into the possibility it is in my sinuses as well. I had several dental implants in 2015. @irene5 Hi Irene. I have TWO molars side by side removed 5 months apart. I now have no molars to chew on that side with. I am ok with chewing on only one side. I would just have to hope and pray the other side doesn't go.

@windwalkerTerri I am sorry to say if you use only one side to chew on you will probably have issues with that side over time - hopefully only after a long time of chewing, and by then there will be a cure for MAC so it won’t be a big deal. That’s how mine went - one side at a time. My stress was always in my mouth which along with low bone density contributed to my tooth loss. At least you still have options Terri. That’s the good news!

@windwalkerterri and others....re teeth and extractions and implants etc....l have found when l am puzzled re a dental recommendation....it is best to get second opinion...if there is a dental school nearby... that is ideal for second opinions. In my lifetime l have been told l needed....especially when l had good dental insurance...that l needed major stuff done.....second opinion revealed l did NOT.
I asked the Dental school Periodontist whom I saw for second opinion why the private periodontist would have said l needed all my gums worked on surgically when they were fine ….her response was "he probably had a mortgage payment due" tdrell aka terri

Irene5 I had all my bottom teeth pulled last year! It was so difficult for me to do. And my surgeon said it was the Sjhgrens! No one said it was from MAC! Now I think it is. Because of my weight loss I had to do bone implant and do implants with post only. It’s good to learn new stuff even the doctors could be wrong sometimes.

@america I am so sorry! Sjögren causes dryness which leads to tooth loss which is probably why you were told that. Many people with Sjögren’s have MAC probably because the former is autoimmune which seems to be a contributing factor for MAC. Sending you a hug. Been there done that!

@tdrell That is so true. $$$$. I would have gotten another opinion if I weren't having SO much pain and a holiday weekend looming; all offices were closing at noon on Fri (July 4th weekend.)

I have not been diagnosed with Mac in my sinuses. But early this year I had two bad sinus infections with ugly looking mucus. I took a course of antibiotics with each one. Amazingly my MAC coughing an mucus stopped for about three months. It was wonderful. Now the MAC is back. I tried to get my Pulmonologist to give me another round of antibiotics but he refused. He only follows the recommended three protocol.

I have not been diagnosed with Mac in my sinuses. But early this year I had two bad sinus infections with ugly looking mucus. I took a course of antibiotics with each one. MAC is described as "slow to grow and slow to go". Short courses of single antibiotics only slightly suppress the infection and don't cure it. That means the strongest germs survi e and grow again making the infection more likely to become drug resistant. 50 years of treatment and research has taught doctors to not do it.
Nobody likes to hear this but the NTM experts agree.
