Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo: What has helped you?
Believe from my symptoms that I've got BPPV. When I turn my head to the right side in bed, the room appears to spin and lasts a few seconds (less than 10 seconds). Also experience the same symptom with certain head movements (eg, looking down or up while standing).
Has anyone else in the group been diagnosed with BPPV? Has anyone corrected the prob by using the series of maneuvers at the link below, or other similar maneuvers?

I no longer try the Epley maneuver at home. The last time I tried it, I ended up in the ER due to continual vomiting. Apparently, some crystals were displaced into a lateral inner ear canal. For an inexperienced patient, the maneuver is best done under the supervision of a physical therapist with specialized training and experience in vestibular disorders. An inexperienced person can make the problem worse. If the patient would like to do the Epley at home, the physical therapist can teach the correct technique.
Thanks. That’s what I’ll do.
Have diagnosis with doctor. Epley maneuver standard therapy...worked for my husband..eventually. Can get out of hand and last for awhile. His has tendency to return if he stops using above therapy entirely. Meclizine will help but if in treatment preferred not to use since it deadens part of ear that needs work. Good luck and rule out other diagnoses first.
Welcome @gerry1, Thank you for sharing what helped your husband. Do you mind sharing how you found Connect, what you were searching for?
I had the Epley Maneuver by ENT office a few years ago & it worked well & was such a relief! It was well worth the $100 cost. Medicare didn’t cover it by ENT; but later I found out that if done by P.T. then Medicare will cover. (I think I could do that video above, after experiencing it by provider but important to know which side!)
I use the Epley maneuver regularly. I have had BPPV for many years, and the Dizzy and Balance clinic OT told me that most of the time if it reoccurs it is the same ear time after time. It is true for me.
Also, over time I have learned that I have "warnings " of a coming episode. Mine are a feeling of fullness in head or ears, increased ringing in ears especially when lying down, and twinges of dizziness when turning quickly.
If I begin doing the Epley maneuver 2-3 times a day, I can often avoid a full episode. That happened this week as we were about to leave on a road trip and I will continue to do it twice a day until we get home.

Thanks for the info about possible reoccurrence. I do get those 3 feelings at times, but attribute it to my hearing loss; I wear hearing aides. Hoping it never comes back because the dizziness, nausea is an awful experience that I wouldn’t wish on any person! (I saved that video just in case)
I have had infrequent recurrent episodes of BPPV for many years. I now avoid ever putting my head down below my shoulders. I sleep with my head elevated and don't sleep on the side with the affected ear. A known trigger is having the head in the sink at the hair salon. I ask the stylist to prop my head with towels, so that it doesn't tilt back so much. Another known trigger is the downward dog position in yoga. I no longer do yoga.
Eppley Maneuver. Have a professional do it first. Google it and you can do it yourself if it isn’t too severe.
Yes I have too, I happened to be in physical therapy at the time from a recent fall, and my physical therapist performed the maneuvers on me and it works immediately! Mine came back months later, did the maneuvers again and again it worked immediately. It has recently come back again and I am wondering if some how my trigeminal neuralgia is causing it again and again.
So yes I have had positive responses to them.
