Sciatic Pain: Does anyone have any tips on how to get rid of it?

I've developed some scatic pain in the last two weeks. Has anyone else experienced this? I wonder if it's from riding the stationary bike. I had a massage that helped temporarily, but now it's back. The pain shoots up my leg to my bum when I put any weight on it. Does anyone have any tips on how to get rid of it?

Following an injury years ago, I have chronic sciatica pain in my hip. I’m wondering what is being done successfully to ease the pain?

Many years ago my sciatic pain was so bad, I literally collapsed to the floor or even outside walking on a sidewalk. Embarrassing, yes, when people come rushing over to help me get up. Finally, after many trips to a GP a friend at work recommended and old Chiropractor in my hometown. The pain was so severe, I was constantly limping. Finally I called his office and he answered. He told me to come to his office just three blocks from my home. The doctor must have been in his 70’s. I told him my problem and he had me lay on the long padded table while we talked. At the end of the session, he says, that’s right, you have a sciatic pain. Tell me, do you keep your wallet in your left rear pocket? Yes I replied, why? That’s what’s causing your pain he said, take it out. Then he explained why, It seems pockets in jeans or other clothes are in the wrong spot. When you sit down, the wallet presses against the sciatic nerve that’s right there. It presses against the hip bone and there’s your problem, sciatic pain, so take the wallet out. He also explained that the way you sit or recline can press against the sciatic nerve, so be mindful of your posture, especially on a hard surface like a chair. I immediately took his advice and I haven’t had an episode of sciatic pain since. I keep my wallet and other personal things in a fanny pack. That had to be 40 years ago. Oh yeah, for the advice and examination, he charged me $3, that should tell you how long ago that was!!!

I would definitely give Yoga a chance. You tube has many free classes and some are specific to your issue. Within a few days, my pain cleared up.

I am convinced I've avoided a lot of pain like sciatica by taking Alexander lessons over the years. They can really help in identifying tension that one is unaware of they are holding in their body, and releasing it. They are not a option for all, because insurance still considers it an alternative healthcare treatment for the most part. Many books however have been written on this technique, I even have one written by a Physical Therapist who incorporates it into their practice. Many Alexander instructors have dual professional interests like ballroom dancing, that is what makes some of them so exceptionally good. You can find some instructors even offering online classes at this time, which is OK as a introduction, but one-on-one in person is the ideal. Your breathing is a important feature. Next time you are gripped by sciatic pain, don't hold your breath, breathe! I'd also scrutinize the shoes you are wearing. I changed out my shoes and that helped immensely too. I can no longer go the cheap route on shoes anymore, and understand perfectly now why folks invest in those expensive Italian shoes.

I have this, but it’s unclear to me if it’s nerve, muscle or vascular. I’m getting mri to help determine and thought about doing lactic acid test as microclot tests are unavailable to test for vascular right now. I feel like I’m doing a lot of process of elimination tests while I wait for microclot tests to become available. Low histamine diet is helping me, but not a lot of studies on any of this. My dr also recommended magnesium supplement. I would work with your doctor. I was referred to ortho dr and they did X-ray and will do mri and also did PT referral. Doctors are trying their best and mine have been amazing, but so much is new to them as well.
