How do you cope with Overactive Bladder/Urge incontinence?

Does anyone have suggestions on how to cope with overactive bladder and urge incontinence? Are there any meds that can help without causing unwanted side effects?

All done, fistula closed up. The problem was a thin vaginal wall, that is now padded. The whole operation worked perfectly, no pads. Just have to get the muscles back in shape.

Congrats, @cnh. I'm so relieved to hear that the procedure was a success. All the best with your recovery and regaining the muscle function. Are you working with a specialized physiotherapist?

My husband who has an enlarged prostrate plus mild dementia needs something for nighttime peeing. He has to get up 3 to 4 times a night - has fallen lately. Used to use a large bottle but then started dropping it! tried an external catheter and that didn't work. I've goods at a system where he could pee into a funnel system with a cap, hose and bottle that sits on the floor. Read mixed reviews - broken or leaking hoses, etc. At wits end. Another morning of washing sheets and waterproof pads. Nighttime depends can't hold enough. With a bedside commode he would still have to get out of bed, which he doesn't want to do.

Restricting water when possible. He is on both Flomax and Avodart - haven't seen much improvement in the years he has been on them!

Has anyone come across a good product that actually holds together? Thank you

Have you tried Bladder Rescue? My urologist doesn't give an opinion on it, but it helps me with bladder control.

I'll have to look it up. His main thing is he doesn't want to get up at night to go to the bathroom as that is when he has fallen.

I used to own a group home so my ears perked up when I saw an electric device in pad form that pulls urine from the pad. Does anyone know the brand name? - I’ve forgotten but will try to find it for you

It was Pure Wick but is for women :-(. I did see a pad I’m not familiar with called Quick Change where the pad wraps around the penis making changing easier on the caregiver. Good luck - I don’t think it will be long before I’m in your position with my husband (((hugs)))

Does he use a cane at night?

He is using a walker. Which he bangs into things. Have a nightlight, which helps a little. And doctors keep telling him not to drink liquids at least three hours before bedtime (he has been going to bed around 5 to 6pm). When I remind him he gets mad. He has always had a temper if he didn't get his own way. My fault was that it was easier to give in to him as he is charming when he isn't mad. And they were usually small things, like asking me to get his water. But now they are things that are outlandish and/or dangerous - like his wanting to drive. Major tantrums when he insist I give him the car keys and I won't. Planning on selling the car as I shouldn't drive either as reflexes too slow.

Has anyone used Tranquility ATN All-Through-the-Night Disposable Brief? Say it will hold a quart of liquid.
