Heart Rhythm Episodes - AFib; Tachycardia, High Blood Pressure

Hello! I'm looking for feedback and any information on anyone who has episodes of excelled heart rate 160 + with increased blood pressure. I have been experiencing this for the past year. It comes without warning. If I try to eat or drink it will happen as well periodically and have lost 18 lbs in 6 weeks. I feel confused, dizzy, nauseated and foggy with a hard time breathing. It can last approx 1 hr. My pulse usually goes back down but blood pressure usually stays up. Feel sick 24 hrs after these flare ups. Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks!

Wow Dana! You are a wealth of information! All of my Afib episodes were triggered by eating, in fact for a long time I thought I had reflux, and that was what made my heart beat fast, I explained to every doctor I ever saw (many) including cardiologists that it always happened after eating, especially if it was a heavier meal, and I was NEVER told about the vegas nerve. I recently had an Event monitor for 7 days. It showed 260 episodes of Paroxysmal SVT. They were not sustained, but were extremely frequent, occurring in rapid bursts over several hours on several days. The Cardiologist reassured me that this is not life-threatening, but did recommend an ablation. I am scheduled to have a consult with an Electrophysiologist in a couple of weeks. I did forget to ask him, however, if this kind of non-sustained SVT can still cause symptoms. When I have these 'episodes' I notice increased shortness of breath, some mild chest pressure, and terrible fatigue. My heart is otherwise healthy and free of disease. Do any of you have regular, short bursts of SVT that cause lingering symptoms.

Hi @megansims, The intense fatigue is probably what I dislike the most about it. You will see that I moved your inquiry to a discussion that is going on about similar symptoms. I greatly encourage you to read over the past 6 pages of members who experienced the same as you and connect with them.

Do you mind me asking your age range? I ask because mine started in my early 30's.

@amandaburnett I am 45 and began having these episodes about 20 years ago but they were extremely infrequent. About 9 years ago they began happening more often but in spurts, and two years ago began happening once a week or so, and now it happens every day. The trouble is that they are not sustained, so I am not sure that the EP will want to do anything. But they happen every day, in bursts, and I just wonder if it is at all related to the fatigue and headaches that happened at the same time. Do you also feel really fatigued? I feel like it has to be connected, but I, too, like many here, have had trouble getting doctors to listen.

Are you currently on Metropol succinate?

I take metoprolol 12.5mg × 2 to treat/control my arrythmia which is a ventricular tachycardia ( not just a flutter). Would be dangerous for me to leave untreated.

Yes I am. 12.5 mg plus 5 mg of enalapril plus 81 mg of baby aspirin . Bio prosthetic valve procedure on May 12 for aortic stenosis. Developed atrial flutter Post surgery. I did not have AF prior surgery .

I am in persistent mild? Afib. Heart rate & b/p normal, I feel no Afib symptoms...
ER Dr said no meds needed but Cardiologist put me on low dose of Eliquis...is my heart being damaged being in constant Afib?
