Burning Feet syndrome

Posted by ndovu @ndovu, Mar 17, 2012

Hi everyone! Am 40yrs man in Africa - Country. Kenya. In 1993 aged 22 and in college, I developed burning feet. So hot have been my feet that I've not worn closed shoes all those yrs
All tests done over the yrs -,including blood sugar, pressure, vitamin test, nerve endings test etc. All have been negative. I'm generally healthy, with no major problem. I need anyone who has had such a problem and got help to help.

I apologize for not including your name in this discussion, but I hope you've seen it and perhaps have learned about some options you hadn't been aware of.

Are your feet feeling any better than they were when you last wrote? I hope so.

Jim

@skullborous I found another research type article that was very similar to what you are experiencing. The article "Cutaneous thermal thresholds in patients with painful burning feet." is found here: http://jnnp.bmj.com/content/54/10/877.short. The link will get you the abstract. You have to click on the PDF symbol to read the full article.

Very interesting. I will research this further. Good job finding this! I have no loss of feeling although slight tingling prior to the heat being turned up on them. Much worse in the evening. Usually a 3-4 hour period when most nights I am in either a bucket of cold water or ice wraps. Cold give immediate relief. Very puzzling ailment. My neuro workup reveled no neuropathy. Doppler US of veins normal, bone scan normal, slight elevation of my C-RP level on blood. Wish I at least had a direction of a system causing this. Very difficult to treat the matter being unable to figure the cause. Many thanks John.

I will try this, thank you. Seriously affecting my quality of life. Very frustrating as even with many tests I can get no diagnosis other than idiopathic burning foot syndrome. I don't know the cause so treatment is not focused. Pain control is where I am now. My dermatologist wrote for a compounded cream with ketaprofen, and some other anesthetics. Another with ketamine. Neither did anything.

Hi , i am a 45yrs old, In 1993 while in college my feet started feeling hot. (I would latter learn that it's called burning feet syndrome ). So hot were my feet that i have not worn closed shoes since. Visits to various docs did not yield anything. A neurologist did some tests including nerve endings, vitamin tests, blood sugar but they were negative.
It's only last yr that i was diagnosed with high blood pressure.
My feet are always so hot especially if i do manual work or walk some distance, that i have to step on cold floor or put them in cold water.
Has anyone had such a problem and is there anything that can be done?
I need to one day be able to wear closed shoes as i have not worn one for nearly a quarter of a century.

Greetings all, has anyone had any experience with dmso? Basically it is a solvent that takes whatever is on the skin into it. Knowing this and having read some books on it awhile back I decided to try it with lidocaine on my burning feet. I apply lidocaine gel to the feet then using a latex glove rub in about 1/2 tsp of pharmaceutical grade dmso. It seems to be working. I had the least pain today that I have had in many months. You must be careful not to have anything on the skin where you use it as it will pull it into the skin and some will enter the bloodstream. I’m no doctor so check with yours before trying this. And get only pharmaceutical grade dmso. They make an industrial product that is not suitable. It must be pure and free if other chemicals. I ordered mine online. I am encouraged with this so far. There are lots of articles on dmso. It is used extensively in veterinarian medicine. Both topically and orally and injectable.

@ndovu Hey, brother! You sound like my type. My feet burn all the time. I am working through the steps of Light Chain Amyloidosis diagnosis. The only relief I have found so far is Voltaren Gel. It is not much, but it does work some. Mostly, you are on your own. No one knows what to do. I spend about an hour crying every day.

Exactly. They just don’t know. Even with all the medical advances some things are just not known. Sure is an aggravating painful deal for sure.

@skullborous I'm looking up information about DMSO. Thanks for the tip. I'll probably give it a try.

@oldkarl I know the burning pain in the feet tears. I've shed them, myself. It's unfortunate that a treatment can't always be found for every ailment, and that what works for someone else might not work for me.

I know that it helps to know you're not totally alone, but there are good people who share your pain and will listen and encourage. Is that as true for you guys as it is for me?
