Hives at night: Alpha-gal syndrome?

Posted by ryniceal @ryniceal, Dec 27, 2018

For the past five nights, including tonight, I have been experiencing a reaction of some sort. I assume that they are hives. The weird thing is that it only happens, well 95% of the time, the breakout starts in the evening. I know it's not from a bite or something because they are in different spots each night... I have had an allergy test ..that was done a few years back and it came back negative. Not allergic to anything. I know that can change, but I just find it odd that this only happens at night. During the day, I am fine... just anxious know what's to come after sundown. Another thing I noticed is that they are usually in straight lines.. not always, sometimes they are blotchy but a lot of the time they are in lines. I have taken benadryl every night for the past few nights... didn't work. Tonight I got a little bit of relief but I can already feel my body getting itchy. Hydrocortisone creams do nothing. I think I just apply them for piece of mind. I called my primary's after hours answering service and spoke with my doc. I have an appt with her in the morning and she is going to do bloodwork and give me steroid shots, but I just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced anything like this before or know someone who has.

They usually last for the night. When I can finally get myself to sleep at night.. in the morning i am fine. They dont leave any markings or anything. They are just red and raised and extremely itchy.

Any input will help. Thanks in advance.

Hi, @ryniceal, Your post was in Dec ’18. Don’t know if the skin rash issue has resolved yet. If the characteristic of the skin allergy is that it always happens a few hours after a meal, say, dinner, it could be the “alpha-gal syndrome” posted on the Mayo Clinic website. The syndrome was discovered just in the recent years. You may go and find out more.

Msou, do you have experience with alpha-gal syndrome?

This was today... about an hour from when the irritation started so it's not as red as it was... but the fact that I am brown skinned African American.. I'm not really that DARK .. but I'm not light skinned either.. you can still see the redness.

The difference today is that there weren't as many spots as usual.. but the area was bigger.

I dont know what to think anymore.

3. Click the grey button below the message window that says "Add Photo/Files".
4. Drag and drop the photo you wish to add or click to upload from your device.

Colleen, I tried your instruction. It did not work.
- I clicked the Add "Photo/Files”
- Uploaded a PDF file.
- The “File” appeared in the dotted grey area as a rectangle with the word “.PDF" and the file name Timeline.pdf in it. The photo I stored in the file can not be seen.
- The file size is 1.5 MB.
- Below the grey box, there is also a rectangle, “Title: Timeline Edit title, Filename: Timeline2.pdf” in 2 lines sits at right.

There is no photo for me to drag. When tried to drag by the PDF file rectangle, it wouldn't do. What have I done wrong? Thanks!

Maybe I can help a little here @colleenyoung and @msou. I recently tried to add a pdf file only to find out that pdf files are not usable in that format. Your best bet is to save the pdf as a jpg. Then you will be able to drag it to the photo box below your comments. In fact, it should happen automatically. Good luck. A second try may be the solution.
Good luck.

Thank you @artscaping, Looks like not too many people are using the Photo/Files function. My solution now is to put the Photos & text in one piece in the .pdf and “Reply” it. The result in the updated Connect is a link in blue color file name that gives the access. People need to make a click -- an extra effort -- to see the Comment. This is the best I can do for now.

I have chrons disease and started getting hives at night. Zytec helps for 2 days but makes me extremely nauseous, also have creams too, no help. I am 67 and never had a rash in my life till chrons. Doctors wont even do blood work. See an allergist in 6 weeks. I know its not food or meds. Kept a month long diary.
