Post cataract surgery/worried

I had cataract surgery w/corrective lens August 21, and after two weeks my eye is still blurry, scratchy and uncomfortable. Skin under my eye turned dark black to the middle of my cheek, and that also is still very dark and not back to normal. Visited surgeon twice and he says the surgery went well and my symptoms are not abnormal, but I am concerned because my vision is so poor and reading ability worse than before surgery. Doctor tells me it will improve in time, but I am getting scared because I still can't see clear enough to drive my car. Last night I noticed that when I cover my other eye, I now see shooting bright light around street lights! Is all this normal after this type of surgery? Several others I've spoken to that have had this surgery tell me they see well within days, and none of them had ever heard of getting a black eye. If it truly takes months to see well and adjust to this new lens in my eye as doctor tells me, I can accept that, but I am getting worried. Also, there is a small spot of white at the bottom of my eyeball where there is longer color - doctor says color will return and white spot is medicine he put in the eye and will eventually disappear. I would appreciate hearing from anyone else who might have experienced any of these things after cataract surgery. Thanks for any information you can give me.....

I have extremely dry eyes and have used all available remedies, including Restasis and XIIDRA. Finally , my eyes Doc suggested 2 remedies. Prokera and Autogolous Serum (this is made from your own blood). Have been on this for just 2 days (Serum) and am noticing less discomfort. My husband was freaked out about this.
Anyone else who has tried this method? I’m still having to use XIIDRA 2,times day.

@2021mymayoclinic2021 Sounds like the autologous serum eye drops are working for you, but your husband is very bothered by them. So much of medicine today is starting to use patients own tissues for treatments. And they are working without introducing a foreign element into the system. Can i ask what your husband is freaked out about?

@2021mymayoclinic2021 Sounds like the autologous serum eye drops are working for you, but your husband is very bothered by them. So much of medicine today is starting to use patients own tissues for treatments. And they are working without introducing a foreign element into the system. Can i ask what your husband is freaked out about?

@nla4625, like @cherriann I have not heard of having a lens polished after cataract surgery. I just had cataract surgery on both my eyes a little over a month ago. I did find some information explaining it a little. I think it's called a posterior capsulotomy.

Good morning

I see there are a few posts on YAG or posterior capsulotomy that are over a year old and I wasn’t sure where to post this. . I just wanted to say that I had a YAG procedure done on my right eye just yesterday (June 10). It was successful and actually not a big deal. I have dry macular degeneration in that eye and am also being treated for macular edema in that eye (almost healed). So I was concerned about having anything else done.

I had cataract sx 12 years ago in both eyes and have had a haze on the right eye for about a year. One of the
possibilities is having increased pressure after the procedure but I decided to go ahead. They did measure my pressure after the procedure. I have a follow up in a week but am happy to say that, so far, the haze is gone…I had a mild headache for a few hours. They tell you to look out for increased floaters, a veil or shade over the eye, flashing lights or pain that can’t be relieved by advil or Tylenol. So far so good and I am glad I did it and will ask during the follow up how often eye pressure has to be measured.

Good morning

I see there are a few posts on YAG or posterior capsulotomy that are over a year old and I wasn’t sure where to post this. . Good morning FL Mary, Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm happy to hear that it has helped you. I'm happy I had cataract surgery done for both eyes. The only problem I've had since the surgery is my eyes seem to be a little more sensitive to light and seem to be watery a lot more than before. Some of this I'm sure is related to my CPAP mask leaking air around the eyes. I also notice a few floaters once in awhile. I have to wear reading glasses for the computer and reading. Funny thing happened a few days ago. I saw what I thought was a floater moving around on my left eye and blinking couldn't make it go away. I pulled my glasses off and rubbed my eye a little and was going to put some eye drops in then I looked closely at my glasses and saw the tiniest ant moving around on the frame and lense. Gave me a good laugh to start my day.

Hi , I never had light sensitivity or watery eyes after both my cataract surgeries. But when I was driving at night I could see half halos over street lights and oncoming cars only on my left eye. . I don’t drive at night anymore but as a passenger I still see that but can squint it away.

My doctor told me to wear sunglasses outside always to protect my vision. I do find it uncomfortable at times if I neglect to do that and the sun is out full force.

That’s funny about the ant. I have often seen insects flying around that I thought were floaters, or floaters that were insects lol. Lots of bugs here in Florida. On occasion I have though that a big floater to the edge of my eye was a person and it scared the heck out of me if I was home and knew there was no one else here. Generally I don’t notice floaters ….much like I don’t notice the tinnitus in my left ear. Thankfully nothing life threatening….maybe to the flying insects but not to me.

I have Sjogrens syndrome and one of the effects is very dry eyes. You may want to see about purchasing a Bruder Dry Eye Mask (Amazon) - they are so helpful!
