Post Covid Brain Issues

Posted by debberanner @debberanner, Jun 27, 2021

I had Covid in November 2020, a severe headache, different from any previous headaches in December. A CT of my brain at that time was negative. I began having cognitive problems with memory, math and dates & times. A June MRI of my brain showed bilateral chronic frontal temporoparietal subdural hematomas. Has anyone else experienced this? I’m wondering if this is something that will continue to happen?

Hi!

My brain and mental clarity has not been the same since second Covid infection in January of 2022. I am 38yo Husband and Dad, Regional Executive of a national company and an MBA student in a top ranked University. I was highly functional before the infection. Now, for example, I look at a pen and have to decide if it goes in the refrigerator or drawer. I took a medical leave form Spring MBA and may have to do the same this summer if I don’t improve. I am no longer able to write reports, publicly speak, run presentations, I can barely travel, and am so out of it, forgetful, fatigued and rifled with extreme brain fog. I have also noticed abnormal tendency to be easily frustrated and daily melancholy. I feel like I’ve had a massive four month concussion.

Two weeks ago I started a Mediterranean/Paleo Brain health diet and am trying to exercise 3-5 days a week. On the days I exercise for at least 30 min, there is some slight short term improvement for the rest of that day. I am scared and don’t know where to turn for help. I’m wondering if Mayo offers a consultations for Covid long haul/brain health. If so I’m desperate and want to book an appointment.

Thanks for your help!

@bentyson, you certainly are not alone. Long COVID and brain health is affecting so many people. The inability of so many to resume normal activities let alone return to work is having serious impacts.

Sorry to hear you are going through this...unfortunately, I have no helpful advice. I too am struggling still. I had Covid April 2021 and I am still not doing well -- no taste, no smell, constant ear ringing, fatigue AND worse of all memory issues, inability to concentrate, brain fog... I keep pushing forward but it's getting more frustrating as the months go on. I too am focusing on my diet, trying to exercise more, taking handful of supplements... I wish you well and hope soon you will make turn for the better. If you find anything that seems to help, a dr. that is willing to work with you and so on, could you please update your post?

My husband had the same. Covid on march 2021. He also had severe headaches and he never had headaches. His MRI also negative. Has not had another one. He has cognitive issues, memory problems etc. He walks stooped, drools a little and now being tested for Parkinson's but I think its all covid related because before vivid he was fine. I wish you well. I know what you are going through. B
