idiopathic neuropathy and sugar, not a diabetic

Posted by tdemaria @tdemaria, Dec 11, 2018

I get neuropathy when I eat. Most thing cause some but sweets cause my feet to go numb, burn and pin and needles. I have been tested many time for diabeties and they say I am not even close. Could this be vasculitus or some RA disease causing the issue. I feelmthe best innthe mornings with little or now neuropathy. As the day goes on and depending on my diet i get inflamed. I do have a bulging disc in my back pressing on nerves but why the sugar would make that so much worse. My Dr is stumped and have no other options for me. I would like to monitor my sugar level continously for a few weeks to see how high I am getting. Can it be insulin intolerance?

Also, my bad again.
Sucrose is fructose plus glucose.
Fructose is the bad guy

Podiatrist recommended. That I have B12 Injection with ultrasound that would relieve my damaged nerve pain in my feet due to neuropathy.
Do you recommend this procedure?

I would think that if it was an effective treatment that my neurologist or podiatrist would have mentioned it by now. I’d be curious to know how much the doctor was going to charge for that treatment. Unfortunately, sometimes ethics go out the window when it comes to money. I would be leary.

A very enlightening book about the effects of sugar written by a doctor who specializes in peripheral neuropathy surgery. Everyone with PN should learn from this book about the devastating things sugar does to our bodies.

“A shocking look at the link between sugar, inflammation, and a host of preventable chronic diseases—perfect for fans of bestselling author Gary Taubes’ The Case Against Sugar—from leading nerve surgeon Dr. Richard Jacoby.”

No, it is not a vascular problem it is a nerve problem. If you eat sweets a lot an not a diabetic it can cause Nerve problems to get worse for a while. I am the same way I love sweets but not a diabetic when I eat to much sweets my legs are killing me. Cold weather, smoking and sitting to much also effect me.

I never heard about ultrasound for that. Who does it?

Interesting found this group. I was diagnosed with idiopathic PN and by in large it comes and goes. Yesterday it was a friends birthday and they brought me a gluten free muffin (I'm celiac) it had an significant amount of frosting that was really good. Well, since then the tingling pins needle feeling in my feet, legs and arms and other parts has definitely flared up. I thought sugar could have been the cause since my diet rarely changes and I quite frankly stay away from sweets and candy. But this muffin was probably more straight sugar I have eaten in years. Well, no more I just hope the flare up will calm down in time.

Hi all,
Sugar and allergy events cause my neuropathy to just have a field day. I usually use cold laser or Shockwave therapies if they do not calm down. As I battle other issues I have been on interesting diets, to include absolutely no sugar for a week. Ugh. Now, doing a diet with 50 to 100 carbs a day. Less sugar would be preferable but I react badly to artificial sweetners and sugar substitutes. To find just the right balance of just enough carbs/sugars is a challenge, but worth the results. I will have a day in the week where I have a little extra but not enough to destroy why I am on this diet to begin with.

I have tried elimination diet for a couple of months. This hasn't helped so this isn't an answer for me.
