What was your experience with a pain pump?

Posted by twa1965 @twa1965, Feb 16, 2022

Who on the platform has a Pain Pump? What side effects did you have, if any? How much did it reduce your pain? What was the recovery time for surgery?

Hello @mlmchem1. I am sorry you are going through this all while your pain continues to worsen.

Because you are interested in connecting with others to learn more about pain pumps and their experiences, you will notice that I have moved your post into an existing discussion on the same topic that you can find here: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/pain-pump-1/?pg=2#chv4-comment-stream-header

I see member @drorvick has joined you. I'd also like to bring in @gcranor who may be able to share more as well.

When are you thinking you will have this procedure?

The trial is scheduled for June 10. I don't know how long after that before I can actually get the pump. The doctor told me it would probably be 2-3 weeks.

I know how desperate you feel, but you have the pump to look forward to, try focus on that a day at a time. I've had a pump since 2012 and get fantastic relief. I wish you good luck.

Hi,
My name is Doreen. Great idea putting us together to share information.
Would it be alright to post links to two Positivity groups on Facebook?
Also a group with chronic pain, mental health, CRPS/RSD, and related issues
that cover the use of IV Ketamine, compounded nasal spray, troche's,
capsules, sublingual, and Spravato. These 3 groups have administrators and
moderators that stay on top of all posts. All groups' rules protect
members and their privacy. I can send you the links separate to check if
needed. No selling is allowed. Doctor's, clinic's and other links are not
out of line. Administration checks on them first. Success stories, idea's,
personal experiences are shared. Fun and laughter is shared all the time.
Venting and what's happening with you is needed too. We share a lot of
happy pictures of family and pets. Always jokes. Prayers are asked for.
Some write music and sing. Support, compassion, and being there for each
other may reduce stress levels. Let me know about sharing the group links
or if you need to check them out first.
Take Care. Your friend, Doreen

I think that sharing is an excellent idea. It can only help those of us who feel desperate and depressed because of the chronic pain we feel. Already i feel encouraged.

I understand. I felt the same with my spinal cord stimulator. It did help with my lower back pain. But now the pain is also in my mid and upper back. I can't seem to keep up with the pain. I am very anxious about the pain pump but mostly looking forward to the trial. I have hope for the first time in months.

I have spinal stenosis aggravated by an accident. I had surgery on my lower back and then fell and broke a screw. Thus I had surgery no. 2 in 2018. The fusion they attempted was complicated by osteoporosis and never healed. So I have failed fusion syndrome and also a loose screw in the hardware. Since surgery i have had 2 compression fractures on which I had kyphoplasty. I now have several angles in my spine around all the fusions. The doctor has suggested a surgery fusing my entire spine MAY help. I had such bad experiences with surgery that I've said No More. Surgery would be complicated by the osteoporosis anyway. That's the condensed version of my back problems. I feel like the pain pump is my only hope and my pain management doctors agree. I already wrote about all the procedures they've tried.

Does anyone know of a doctor in Washington State that replaces pain pumps? Mine was inserted in 1998 and is due to shut down 7/19/22, and I am finding it very difficult to find a doctor that is willing to replace my pump, due to previous L&I claims.

Welcome @idaandmike1967, Are you able to call the manufacturer of the pain pump and find the closest facility that can replace your pain pump? What brand of pain pump do you have?

The Salmon Medical Center, Dr. Kuharich. I have seeing him for years with pain pump and he and his staff are awesome! They treat like a normal person and not a drug addicted.
