Neuropathy caused by toxins, poisons and chemicals

Posted by John, Volunteer Mentor @johnbishop, Apr 6, 2022

We all read the safety notices on those household and garden chemicals...right? One of the lesser known side effects of some toxins, poisons and chemicals is toxic neuropathy. I'm hoping we can use this discussion to allow members to share their chemical induced neuropathy journey to learn from each other and to raise awareness of the possible dangers.

Totally cured from neuropathy caused by Amlodipine. After five years of sleepless progressive excruciating lower leg neuropathy in bed I am cured. I finally pursued Amlodipine causation to this horribly painful affliction and slowly decreased my dosing. It is GONE GONE GONE. It took about six months. My blood pressure is also normal possibly due to restored sleep after 5 years of pacing the floor nights as truly agonizing pain in both lower legs occurred only when prone attempting to sleep. Studies had denied any Amlodipine connection but still the question persisted among many sufferers. I am thrilled that I tried carefully discontinuing the disgusting Amlodipine. All those who claimed the Amlodipine connection were correct, and studies disavowing connection were wrong wrong wrong. FIVE YEARS OF AGONY GONE. Please send this message to anyone who you think might benefit from my experience and with great care pursue this question. My graduate degrees in medical sociology were belatedly helpful in tracking down the cause of my ever increasing neuropathy.

@jeanallen I would talk with your doctor before stopping Amlodipine and explain the side effects you are having. Also you may want to discuss alternative methods for lowering your blood pressure with your doctor. Here is some information that you might find helpful to discuss with your doctor:

I can offer anecdotal evidence for drinking golden milk to lower blood pressure.

Golden milk is a heated drink that is commonly consumed in India and consists of turmeric, ginger, black pepper, cinnamon, and a small amount of a healthy fat. The name is a bit odd, but it has many and varied health benefits.

The small amount of black pepper increases the bioavailability of the anti-inflammatory curcumin in turmeric; heating also activates the beneficial compounds. Fat is necessary, as curcumin is fat soluble. I make it for my husband using fresh ginger and turmeric roots, a bit of goat's milk kefir, and cinnamon. Cassia cinnamon, the common form, contains a good deal of coumarin, a substance that, used on a daily basis, may cause liver and other damage, so I prefer to use Ceylon cinnamon.

Any healthy fat can be used, including, but not limited to, coconut or oat milk, kefir, or even a bit of avocado.

My husband has been on medication for high blood pressure for over thirty years. About two years ago, I learned that golden milk was a powerful anti-inflammatory and started making it for him to help with pain in his leg, hip, and neck from too much driving. Those pains eased, and I continued to make it for him daily.

About four months later, he returned from his annual physical with the very surprising news that his blood pressure that day had been normal.
i urged him to tell his doc about the golden milk and ask about carefully reducing his meds. To date, he has not done this, but I would urge anyone deciding to try golden milk to check for contraindications with medications that thin the blood, lower blood pressure, or the like; any medication, actually, and other supplements, as well.

There are organic powdered preparations available that I have given to my adult children, but my daughter prefers the fresh method, as do I, as there's a lot more in the fresh ginger and turmeric roots that's good for you.

I am sensitive to many herbs, medications, and supplements and cannot take this myself, but I'm happy with the benefits it provides my family.

There are many online sources to learn about golden milk. Here's one:

John,

The only other people I've ever talked to who have this same thing are relatives of mine. In our case(s) some of us have decided it's got to be genetic. That is, this extreme suseptibility of grave side effects. My brother's son reacted to chemical in his first year of life and the number of chemical he's allergic to have qualified him as disabled early on. Some prescriptions give me anaphalaxis, the worst kind of seizures. To this day, I can't remember those seizures but it's also documented that I don't have epilepsy. Do you have polyneuropathy (multiple nerve damages)? Or is it just one body part that is affected for you? Almost all of mine are prescription medications. Do you know of, or have you ever been treated with Cogentin as an antidote while you are having a bad reaction?
