Foot neuropathy: What gives you relief?

Posted by kathrina @kathrina, Nov 5, 2019

It seems if I get enough activity/exercise daily I don’t have pain; if not, am awakened from sleep and must get up (even in the middle of the night). What’s going on & what more should I do to avoid rest-disruption?

Welcome @sandy8156, I have no experience with a PEMF mat for neuropathy but there is another discussion where members have discussed PEMF mats -- Looking for recommendations on electromagnetic mats (PEMF): https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/electromagnetic-mats/.

If you are looking to learn more about neuropathy for helping your Dad, the following sites have a lot of good information:
-- Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy: https://www.foundationforpn.org/
-- Neuropathy Commons: https://neuropathycommons.org/neuropathy/neuropathy-overview

Is your Dad on any treatments for his neuropathy?

Hi John, yes, but he is stubborn and doesn't think anything will work. He is laying on the mat at this moment! He has the capsaicin creme and of course he is on diabetic medicine and gabapentin. He doesn't get enough exercise, so he has no circulation in his feet. He loves his sweets. He had Covid pneumonia in January and February, so he has not been able to drive anymore which is good, because I can control the shopping list now. i.e. cookies and cake. I seriously believe the mat is going to help. I have been laying on it also and it has definitely helped my lower back and my shoulder.

People should know that if you have a pace-maker you should not use a Tens unit. I was getting treatment for my neuropathy when the Doctor told me he could not treat me because of my pace-maker His treatment was mainly a Ten's unit. At least he was truthful and did'nt have me coming in for a year. Chas

It hasn't helped me but then I only have numbness with my neuropathy. I've read a lot saying not to drink it close to bedtime but I did come across this interesting article from 2016.

The Role of Caffeine in Pain Management: A Brief Literature Review: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5018099/

I do sometimes drink a cup of coffee in the evening but not right at bedtime because it does tend to make it harder for me to fall asleep. Hopefully someone who has found it helpful can share their experience.

Does not do good for me; it keeps me awake. Starting lidocaine cream now.

FYI
When we have PN, the feet let us know they want attention. Creams, pills, comfy shoes are all important.
So, just sharing this one. I found Circuwear or Incredible socks to be the best socks by far! They make a lot of claims, and I found them to be all true! Bought them on line by OMAX.

I already use support hose all day for two blood clots, but will try these socks. I get relief at night with lidocaine cream, which I just tried.

Has anyone tried a grounding mat? I know someone who sleeps on one and she says it helps her neuropathy in her feet. I’m looking for any remedies for the constant tingling. Are there any topicals that help??

I have a pacemaker, is there any conflict with a Spinal Cord Simulator implant for Foot Nephropathy treatment.
