Struggling with anxiety while undergoing diagnostic testing
I’m not sure if I have Dercum’s disease or not. Also not sure if it’s an autoimmune disease. I recently had an ultrasound done on my upper thighs. I felt small bumps under the skin. My dr felt some and had the ultrasound ordered. Some are tender. A couple of them painful. Not sure how many I have. I had to show the technician some of them. Results came back as lipomas. Supposedly non cancerous. My husband and I researched it. It could be a rare disease called Dercums. I also have GERD, anxiety, stress and now possibly this. Has anyone been dealing with this disease? Thank you

Hello @flow65 and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. It is great to be proactive in seeking out information. I am sure you are growing in your concern as you wait for answers.
Speaking of, now that your doctor has found the bumps to be lipomas, did your doctor share if there would be additional steps to confirm if you do have Dercum Disease?
I have an appointment with her today. Not sure if she knows anything about it and whom to see. She’s an internal medicine Dr. Thx
Hey! Do you ever watch the TLC plus channel? Look for Dr Pimple Popper!!! You can watch her take out Limpoma's all the time! Fun to watch! She is Awesome! Hope it helps!
Hi @flow65, what did you learn with your doctor today?
She doesn’t think it’s Dercum disease. She knew about the disease. I’m suppose to have a biopsy of one or two lumps. They’re not noticeable. Under the skin. I guess for peace of mind. I have anxiety all the time and just to go thru that little procedure will be hard. A struggle with anxiety everyday. Plus slow tapering off of Xanax, I’ve been on it for awhile. About 7 months. I’m so sensitive to meds. It’s a local anesthesia for the biopsy. Thank you. Florence
I forgot to mention the dr said it’s a lopsided weight gain where they are. I don’t have that. Plus I lost a lot of weight. Thx.
@flow65 i understand that you’re worried about the possibility of Dercum disease and especially the upcoming biopsy. I could tell you that people have biopsies all the time and they’re no big deal. But that wouldn’t help. I know you’re anxious and you’ll just need to talk positively to yourself. You can think of other challenges you’ve had and how you got through them. Did you think of pleasant things or places, or put yourself in a nice location and hear the wind or waves? The key to having anything done is “mind over matter.” Just tell yourself that you are a strong woman and this will make you stronger.
Stay positive and we’ll support you! When is the biopsy scheduled?
It’s scheduled for Monday. I use to be strong. My mind has been somewhat shattered ever since pandemic started. Plus other things. I’ll try to be positive. Thank you for the encouraging words.
Florence
I also started a new conversation about Seroquel in the depression & anxiety group. I hope I did it right. Thx
@flow65, just remember that I’m here for you tomorrow. You’re strong and you can deal with this. Finally getting an answer to what is wrong will make it all worth it!
Will you let me know how you do?
