Nocturnal Leg Cramps - Help!
Does anyone have a suggestion to help deal with foot/ankle/leg cramps in the middle of the night? I take plenty of calcium and magnesium and am thinking that I need to increase my potassium intake. Topical lotions (Theraworx, Tiger Balm, etc.) have not helped. I hope this is a good day for whoever is reading this! Sue

It's important to check with your doctor before taking potassium supplements.
And try to pay attention to relative proportions so things are in balance. There are vitamins, the over-consumption of which trigger deficiencies in others. Or worse.
I'm still trying yo find the one perfect supplement that I could take and get rid of too many Johnny-one-note bottles of one element or simple formula and just the one mega formula and forget about it. I know diet is the medicine but reality intrudes and my eating-for-health diet is still a work in progress with detours.
Banans help me.
I meant to say bananas helped me...
I get very painful toe, foot, calf, etc. night cramps. My husband puts hot compresses on them and the pain goes away quite quickly.
Are you diagnosed with neuropathy? If so, the medications should help you. Let your dr. know what is going on and they can probably help too.
No, I have not been diagnosed with neuropathy. I had been given magnesium which worked for a while as did Co-Q-10.
My hubs and I both take Metabolic Nutrition by Restorative Formulations. I get it from my holistic pharmacist by mail. http://www.restorative.com
I would like to share what works for me. When it starts I rub magnesium gel on it. Putting a bar of soap containing lavender under your fitted sheet, near your lower leg really works, in my case anyway.
Also, I hear over and over from Finctional Medicine drs that a diet too high in sugars and other carbs is one of main causes of restless leg problems plus most of our modern day diseases. We should be eating the diet of the Blue Zone people. They are the most well and longest living people in the world. Loma Linda, Ca and Okinawa, Japan.
Someone told me a few years ago to drink low sodium V-8, which has a lot of potassium. The larger 8 oz. cans have 1250mg and an 8 oz. serving from the large plastic bottles has 900+. I was having awful leg cramps in bed and haven't had any since I started drinking the low sodium V-8 in the morning. Bananas have approx. 400mg and are also a good source, as are some other foods which can be googled!
