How long do you take Gabapentin?
My wife got a Rx for Gabapentin yesterday to deal with chronic pain affecting her lower right leg below the knee. They couldn’t find anything obviously wrong and I guess that in those situations they fall back on Gabapentin. The instructions simply said take as needed and I am somewhat sceptical of this as it’s my understanding that Gabapentin is not like an analgesic which you do take on an as needed basis. I thought that for Gabapentin, once you start the meds, you continue at least until the meds is finished. She was given a one month supply.

Gabapentin is prescribed for poly neuropathy and neuropathy that is the only medication that they have out for neuropathy and poly neuropathy I have never seen it prescribed for anything else!? But it does work great if you have neuropathy of any kind and I have heard that it also does help pain but it is for nerve pain so I’m not sure what kind of pain your wife is experiencing but they don’t just prescribe it as a cure all it’s definitely for nerve pain only and if it wasn’t for gabapentin I would not even be able to walk so it has been a lifesaver for me as I have Demyelinating polyneuropathy …
I have to take 800mg 4 X a day…
My labia majora is very sensitive to touch, and hurts most of the time. My Mayo gynecologist prescribed a salve that was compounded at the Mayo pharmacy from Gabapentin and petrolatum. I have to apply it 3 times a day, and it seems to help.
That's about what I take, too in order to function!
I have been on Gabapentin since 2012. I had shingles on my face/gums/chin and the nerve pain never went away. I've had no issues with the drug and have had to have it upped to 3 times a day because the pain was starting to bother me in the middle of the day.
I have on 1800 Mg per day since 2012 and it works for me; migraines, chronic pain (9 spine surgeries), and helps with sleep (1200 mg right before bedtime).
I was on taking Gabapentin for just over a year and a half at 1600 mg day , for me it never seemed to do anything so I weened off. Now trying Pregabelin. This one makes me feel drugged at 300 mg daily and can’t say it is really helping All for server lower leg pain
I have had severe spinal stenosis and scoliosis with really bad nerve pain in my back and neck from playing football ncaa wrestling for several years now with no operations; I take 900mg of gabapentin a day with a half pill of 5mg Vicodin with 355mg acetaminophen (3 times a day 300mg gabapentin and a half pill of the above) which works wonders for me. Gives me a good quality of life.
If you get relief and it works I would stay with (the doctors will keep make recommendations based on what you report) so if it helps and is less surgeries the better (nothing, I repeat nothing can fix scar tissue).
