Coordinating between NJH and your regular pulmonologist and ID doctor

Posted by pjas972j @pjas972j, Mar 8, 2022

I have an appointment in early April to visit NJH. I am very thankful for the opportunity. I'm wondering how the process works after you return home. Does your regular pulmonolgist and ID doctor just read the notes? Do you email NJH if you have a question or problem and copy your local medical team? What does follow-up look like after a visit to Denver? Do most people go just once or return periodically? Thanks for your insights! Jennifer

Hi, I did telemedicine a couple of times during Covid, it was helpful to have my list of questions written down and to check off as they were answered. I didn’t do this, but it may be helpful to have a medical type friend in the room to take notes.

Hi
Did you do telemedicine with Mayo or NJH? I don't know if they have those programs as a stand alone, 2nd opinion option.
Thanks!

No, it was my local hospital network.

NJH sounds like a terrific specialty hospital.
I have been recently diagnosed and am in the Chicago area and trying to find a great pulmonologist here. I also am currently on a hmo and thinking of switching to original Medicare with supplement. Although I have very mild symptoms I’m thinking if and when this progresses I should have health insurance that allows me to choose my own doctors. Just wondering if you’ve come to the same conclusion. Thanks so much!

323, What part of the Chicago area are you in? I am in Naperville. I have original Medicare with a Plan G BCBS supplement. With BCBS you can either pick a plan that you can go to almost any hospital in the state (other than the Rush Copley system), or you can pick a plan that you can go to any hospital in the US. I am thankful I paid the extra $14/month or it would have prevented me from going to NJH. Just be careful if you decide to make the switch. Personally, I like to keep as many health options open as possible.

Hello, I am in the Chicago area also. I have medicare with BCBS supplement for 7 years now and it is very rare that I have to pay anything. I have been very satisfied with Medicare although I was hesitant to do the switch. Good luck!

Hello again, After reading the comments from pjas972j (Hello - I am in Burr Ridge), I realized I actually have been on Medicare for almost 10 years - times flies ! And I also want to mention, apparently things were different then, because every time we access our coverage, we are told that we have a plan that is not available any longer - and we would lose some coverage if we changed. Possibly, we got in at the right time. It is very confusing to me. Right now, I have never had a problem going to any specialist, hospital - cross fingers it continues!

Thank you for your reply. Good to know.
I’m planning on switching back to Medicare now with a supplement.
