New Sleep Medication: Anyone taking Dayvigo (lemborexant)?

Posted by lindasmith1222 @lindasmith1222, Apr 2, 2022

Is anyone taking Dayvigo? My psychiastrist is tapering me off valium and has given me Dayvigo instead. I have PTSD and Major Depressive Disorder and been on benzodiazipines for many, many years for anxiety and sleep. The Dayvigo is as addictive as benzos!

@sandollar I am interested in Davigo. I also have C-PTSD too and take Prazocin for nightmares and BELSOMRA for sleep. At doesn't work well and if this new med can help get to and stay asleep, I am interested. Does insurance cover it?

Hi, Sanddollar. I was taking Prazocin for nightmares and it made my nightmares worse. The nights I didn't take it I had less nightmares and less frightening ones as well. I dream very little or not at all (I don't remember them) on Dayvigo. It comes in 5 mg and 10 mg. I cut a 5 mg in half and I fall asleep without problems and stay asleep until the early morning hours, 6-7 hours of sleep. Once I got used to the new med, I no longer experienced daytime grogginess. My insurance covers it.
It is addicting though and that is my concern, if I ever get to a point where I don't need a medication to sleep. have hope for this goal of mine. I will be receiving my brain stimulator from Fisher in the next few days.

My insurance covers it, BELSOMRA, But its copay is so expensive. They stopped covering AMBIEN CR,which worked better. I am so scared of changing meds.

@sandollar, @trishh, @johnbishop, and all...I have severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea, RLS, use a Bi-pap nightly and take 1 Melatonin at night, one dropper of medical marijuana tincture-1:1, CBD: THC, for insomnia/anxiety/pain relief, and Requip for restless leg syndrome. I also take magnesium, and B12 injections and just had 2 iron infusions for low ferrous that is related to RLS. The iron infusions as of this week have almost controlled the RLS and I feel so much better in many ways. They may be given every several months or annually, as needed. I'm thrilled with this discovery!

A few months ago, I developed horrifying nightmares after an encounter that drew up long ago memories of childhood violence. My Mayo psychiatrist began a nightly dose of 1 mg of Prazosin. I have controlled BP issues and other heart issues, so he only began that med after consulting with my cardiologist. I take my BP meds in the afternoon, the Prazosin at bedtime with the tincture and Melatonin.

After this regimen for several nights, the nightmares now only come 2-3 times weekly, instead of nightly. I'm 75 and have multiple medical conditions that can be quite serious, so any addition of a med must be well thought through. This was and I'm pleased to announce to you that Prazosin has been a wonderful drug for me. It lowers blood pressure, so that was a concern. Actually, with the change in timing of taking the Metoprolol in the afternoon, Prazosin at night, it works very well in every way.

After a nightmare, I awaken sweating, gasping for a breath, and unable to get a breath for some time, HR 121-110. BP 168/98, with full-body shaking, tremors, and unable to talk or walk until I take my morning meds. I spend the rest of the day in bed resting and recuperating with shaking and tremors from the nightmare. My body can't take this kind of treatment, so this is extremely important for my life as well as my quality of life.

I'm thankful for the Prazosin. It's an off-label usage that is working well for me and I expect it to get even better. No side effects, but my BP is perfect all day now, HR as well. Limited tremors like I had prior to the new episode. I will not take any 'heavy medication' again unless absolutely required. I'm off 6 previously long-term meds with which I had brain fog, shaking, sweating, all kinds of side effects and that were all addictive. This is a great solution for me. I will resist any addition of an addictive drug at this point in my life.

John, my friend, I bought some magnesium lotion you mentioned and am using it tonight for the first time. I look forward to more good things. You are the best.

I hope my bit of information from my experiences helps some of you in your crazy journey through these challenges.
Be well, be blessed. Elizabeth
