Anyone in this group have anxiety and depression and and I've heard that it could be linked to taking finasteride...
I have taken Finasteride for years and can see no effects as to anxiety and depression. I have both anxiety and depression experience, both of which pre-date finasteride. Sorry you are having issues. Perhaps your issues may be from other sources?
Hi @elwooodsdad and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. There has been one member to mention this medication causing depression here https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/drugs-that-might-cause-depression/ but I would agree with @elwooodsdad that you should take a look at everything as a whole to make sure it's not caused from something else.
Have you talked to your medical provider about this yet?
I really have no way of knowing whether there is a connection my question was merely that I had read articles there is something called the post finasteride syndrome Society or ichor spotted with some of these people all over the world who all claimed some sort of serious side effect from the finasteride I also found a lot of people claim some sort of sexual side effect from it and from what you're telling me these claims are not recognized as legitimate because my own urologist doesn't even want to discuss it.. but one day when I was in there asking him about it in a young and turn was there he popped up said oh yeah finasteride message for their hormones there's definitely a possibility of some link and my urologist kind of like told him to shut up
There is accumulating evidence for lasting dysfunctions in some men who stop taking finasteride or dutasteride. The most common clusters are 1) sexual dysfunction, and 2) neuropsychiatric events such as depression, anxiety, panic attacks and suicidality.
The connection with depression is discussed in:
Saengmearnupap et al. The connection of 5-alpha reductase inhibitors to the development of depression. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2021.112100
I am unable to post links at this time, but you can search for the title or DOI.
This paper, also publicly available, describes a range of dysfunctions associated with finasteride in the Introduction:
Khera et al. Penile vascular abnormalities in young men with persistent side effects after finasteride use for the treatment of androgenic alopecia. doi: 10.21037/tau.2020.03.21. PubMed Central ID: PMC7354335
