Nocturnal Leg Cramps - Help!

Posted by ashby1947 @ashby1947, Oct 20, 2019

Does anyone have a suggestion to help deal with foot/ankle/leg cramps in the middle of the night? I take plenty of calcium and magnesium and am thinking that I need to increase my potassium intake. Topical lotions (Theraworx, Tiger Balm, etc.) have not helped. I hope this is a good day for whoever is reading this! Sue

Amish Remedy buy on Amazon Prime. Works fast taken by mouth or rubbed on cramping muscles. I’ve used it off and on for years, seems to work immediately.
Best of luck.

I was taught by Asian Dr. wear long -warm sox. I've tried this with short sox, The cramp will remain above the sock. Goes away where there is the sock. Try it. First do no harm.

That’s such wonderful news Larry. I am happy for you. I hope you have all cramp free nights now. Glad potassium did the trick.

Low sodium V-8 juice has a lot of potassium (1250 mg) . I haven't had any leg or foot cramps since I started having that every morning.

Hi,

Instead of Magnesium citrate take Magnesium Glycinate 400. MG Glycinate binds with an amino acid called glycine which has a calming effect on the body and also may promote better sleep. It is less of a laxative than citrate. I only take one (the dosage is 2) about an hour before bedtime. It’s has eliminated any muscle cramps for me which I used to have occasionally . I remember those nights walking around and yep..they hurt

I think you will notice the difference in a few days.

I'll definitely try some of the ideas here, but I also find that if drink plenty of water in the evening, I'm less likely to have leg cramps at night. Simple, but it works for me.

These cramps come and go, seem to be in cycles and there is no explanation that applies for me. Sometimes daily, other times months apart

If I drink Powerade Zero or Gatorade Zero for the electrolytes, the leg cramps vanish

I once asked this question about a different medicine and my pharmacist said it could create a "dosage dump" whereby the pieces of a pill could have very different amounts of medication. It probably wouldn't make much difference if you're taking both pieces in the same day. But could make a difference with meds that are designed to create a fairly constant blood level like most antibiotics. The other factor to consider is that many drugs begin to degrade quickly upon being cut or broken. Any reliable, experienced pharmacist would know whether the manufacturer specifically warns against this. My pharmacist is a treasure trove of information including which drugs people are switching out of due to side effects and which drugs he's heard few complaints about and people are happily refilling. I get all pets' meds filled by him when possible, partly because his inventory turnover is faster than my vet's so the meds are just fresher. And his generics are all tier 1 where available. There are quality differences among generics no matter what the FDA says in my opinion.

My oncologist said that taking it alternate days was the best way to cut the dose. However, for Femara at least, the insert cites studies showing that 20% of the usual dose is effective, so even if the two halves were different sizes, presumably you would achieve suppression of estrogen from the adrenals. But ask a doctor or pharmacist! ps it is not okay to cut pills that are time-release, but I don't believe any AI's are
