Retinal tear and sports

I had a retinal tear in the 80s and was not allowed to even drive for a few weeks after surgery. I did too much exercise type activity one day and developed small holes which were lasered because the fluid behind the retina was leaking.

I am surprised you waited this long. You need to get that fixed ASAP or you risk losing your sight totally.
You didn’t say what sports you were concerned about but I suspect contact sports would be out of the question. Maybe some other sports as long as eye protection is worn. The lightening effects you are seeing is a clear indicator of a big problem looming down the road.

Retinal tears are very common in football, basketball and baseball. Don’t delay any longer …..you are risking your vision. You are lucky so far. I know someone who waited until the retinal fluid was leaking out of his eye….lost the vision completely.

Laser surgery is done in the office and the eye needs time to heal. Go….please.

Today I am being treated for macular edema in the eye that had the tear…related?…maybe. But the vision after the surgery was worse and still is today.

Hello. I have to postpone it all the time due to financial problems. Recently, black spots started to increase in my eyes. I had to quit sports because of this disease.
