C. diff relapse?
How many have had a relapse. I finished my two weeks of vancomycin and believe I still have it. Did a stool sample Friday, so I guess I’ll see. Tired of isolation, Clorox and mood.

Those are wild prices for the Vanco. I picked up my RX for use in tapering today from Kroger and was astonished that the cost for 14 day dosage was just $4.24! Last time I got it from Publix, it was $24 so crazy fluctuations in what you are having to pay! So sorry. Dificid seems to be the really pricey one. So hoped it would work but didn’t.
What is the purpose behind tapering? I guess I don’t understand how that works when taking the full dosing didn’t get rid of it. Please elaborate. I’ve heard of tapering but wasn’t sure about how it’s supposed to help? Prayers that it works for your husband and all of us.
He would be improving on the full dose, but not be back to normal. As soon as he was off the drug, the diarrhea got worse. I guess the tapering is to try to stop that pattern
I just read here that Mayo Dr. told someone that she will always test positive for C-diff. Is this true? I just tested positive again on a stool sample after finishing Vanco a week later. From reading here, Dificid is the best to try so I just told my Dr. to prescribe it. My co-payment is $50 and the meds cost $7000 for 2 wk supply. That is so unheard of...
Just picked up my Dificid, at Walgreens. $7257.00!!!!!!!!!!!!! My co-pay was $50. thank goodness. Really hoping it works since Vanco did not. For this price, we should all be getting a new stomach makeover....Praying for no side effects...
The only tapering off strategy that helped my husband was with cholestyramine. It is an off label prescription that his gastroenterologist used after every antibiotic failed.
After my husband suffered from C-diff for six months, his gastroenterologist prescribed cholestyramine which is actually a cholesterol lowering drug. None of the antibiotics helped but cholestyramine stabilized his gut.
I am on the same drug for chronic diarrhea. It got so bad I felt I could not leave my house. I have never had c-diff and although I was diagnosed with Crohns 50+ years ago, I have been on no medicine and healthy. My problem was the diarrhea from having all but 9 inches of my colon removed 50 years ago. Cholestrymine keeps it to a manageable level. BTW it was an internist, not a gastro that prescribed it and saved me.
So thankful that your internist was able to help!
Just now saw your post from Oct 10, 2021 - How did it go? In 2011 my Periodontist put me on Amoxicillin for 10 days and on the 10th day I got the famous diarrhea. Two days later I was recovered in the hospital for C-difficile. From what I understand all broad -based antibiotics pose a problem for c-diff. And Amoxicillin falls into that category and is known to cause c-diff. I have not taken antibiotics since. Thankfully, have not needed. I had a Dermatologist who wanted to give me an antibiotic for MOHs procedure, but I refused. I told the Dermatologist who had referred me, and she gave me an antibiotic cream to put on the site and I was fine
