Prolia treatment for osteoporosis: What is your experience?
I received the results from my bone test and they have recommended I start Prolia. I have read the side effects and I am concerned. Has anyone use this drug and if so what side effects have you experienced. Thank you

In reply to @rashida … in my situation, I turned off all my email notifications and then reestablished them under settings (in each group). It was a bit slow, but worked well. I couldn’t figure out going through my email server too.
I started the prolia injections 20 months ago. I have had no problems with them. (3 so far). I'm due for another bone scan in June. However I need some dental work and I'm worried about the effects of prolia. I did not find out about the possibility of jaw necrosis until recently. Educate yourself about all the side effects.
@fourof5zs - Thanks! I’ll try that on my laptop! I tend to use my iPad more than my laptop.
I just finished a year of Evenity and so I am set to start Prolia in 2 weeks. My scores improved on Evenity so now I have osteopenia, no longer osteoporosis. I am 60 and don’t want to take Prolia for the rest of my life. Is further treatment always necessary? I am encouraged however, hearing that you have no side effects. Stay well.
I was told, with Reclast rather than Prolia, I could take breaks and my doc would monitor me. My doc also said I could take a partial dose of Reclast.
Thanks for replying. I will look into that. My doctor favors Prolia but mentioned Reclast. He spoke of the jaw necrosis being more common with Reclast. If I take Prolia for 10 years I will be 70. I’m not convinced it is safe past that.
Evenity and Prolia are made by the same company and so Prolia is suggested. However, Reclast stays in your system longer so breaks are possible if monitored. I have met with a chiropractor, Keith McCormick, who wrote the book "The Whole Body Approach to Osteoporosis." He did Forteo and Reclast himself but has been off meds for years. So there is hope as long as we are monitored.
I so appreciate your input. So, hope if I decide to stop meds as long as I continue to be checked?
I have been told by my MGH doctor that it is first necessary to "lock in" the gains from Tymlos with Reclast, but he said for me he would do 1/4 dose. After the first dose or maybe second, he said I could go off and they will monitor me. McCormick, who wrote the book on Whole Body approaches, did exactly that. DEXAs can be used but also blood tests to measure turnover/rate of bone loss can monitor things. I am avoiding Prolia because I don't think breaks are possible without another med.
My doc said I would first do a partial dose of Reclast to lock in gains from Tymlos. I could then try taking a break, and go on and off meds as needed. He is also considering "saving" a year of Tymlos thought that may not be necessary. And Evenity remains for the future as well. Dr. McCormick, who wrote a book on Whole Body Approaches to Osteoporosis, had very severe osteoporosis, went on Forteo and Reclast I believe (not sure) but since then has been off meds using diet and exercise and supplements. He uses DEXA's and blood tests for bone turnover/loss to monitor. You cannot stop Prolia w/out meds due to fracture risk soon after, I have been told.
