Prolia treatment for osteoporosis: What is your experience?
I received the results from my bone test and they have recommended I start Prolia. I have read the side effects and I am concerned. Has anyone use this drug and if so what side effects have you experienced. Thank you

I talked to a Geek Squad member at Best Buy and he says that happens a lot. There are ways to fix it, so I am going to Best Buy to have them do that. Them I might know how to fix it myself next time.
In reply to @ZeeGee. Thx! As it turned out, somehow my iPad kicked me out of my settings with connect. I had to re-establish my post notifications and now I am receiving them again! Yea!
Hi,
I have high risk osteoporosis. I took prolia for 2 shots. I am so sorry that I did! After the second shot I was in constant pain in my legs - worse when I laid down, my finger joint grew and my hair fell out - about 1 1/2" all around my face. Now I look like a witch! I told my endocrinologist I was stopping but wanted to know what would happen. He said without drugs I would have a 10% chance of a broken hip and a 25% chance of any broken bones in the next 10 years. I will take those chances. I now feel great - drug free except for calcium and vitamin D. I do a few exercises learned in gym class eons ago and walk 3-4 miles a day, weather permitting. Be your own best advocate for your body. Kaye
You don't say what your DEXA scan results are but there are other medication options if your osteoporosis is severe, including Forteo Tymlos and Evenity- if your insurance will cover them. I went many years without meds but ultimately fractured several spinal vertebrae and wish I could roll back the clock and start meds earlier.
Breast to hear this worked for you. I would also be interested in what your Dexa scores were if you are willing to share. Thanks
You are exactly right, we must be our own advocates and make decisions on treatments after doing our own research. The medical community and pharma promote drug treatment for osteoporosis, but drugs or certain drugs might not be the best option for everyone. I recommend following reviews and experiences from those who are treating and well as not treating osteoporosis....they offer a wealth of first-hand information with their personal experiences.
The problem with depending on reviews is that those who experience troublesome side effects tend to post more than those who don't. And some of us just have no choice but take medications, regardless of side effects.
So sorry! Correction above: GREAT to hear. :).
@migizii - what settings did you have to apply to get your Connect mail back? I’m on iPad too.
@migizii
My email is yahoo through iPad and I had to go to yahoo website (My yahoo. com or something like that) and sign in to my account there … then went to spam folder and selected an email from Mayo Connect and selected “not spam”. It does not work marking it as “not junk” in the iPad email. Also go into your account settings here on Connect and make sure your settings are correct for receiving messages… could be either one causing the problem of not getting Connect email.
