@ritapearl, I'm calling in fellow members to offer their tips on how to regain weight with MAC and bronchiectasis, and what food to avoid that may cause mucus. I'm confident that @irene5 @tinaesims @crepass @poodledoc @anniepie @tdrell @lindam272 @windwalker @hauoli @pop55 and others will have experiences to share.
Generally cooking oils aren’t to be considered “health foods.” However in the pursuit of weight gain they’re hard to beat since they’re pure fat. Despite the putative virtues of Olive oil, in terms of the Omega 3 to Omega 6 ratio Canola oil ranks best. Don

Thanks Colleen!!!!
Yes, I did loose 12 lbs when I got my diagnosis of Mac. 8 months later, it was time for annual thyroid levels and they were too high. Synthroid dose adjustments helped. And I am starting to put back on lbs. I needed. Also my go to snack of choice was icecream and I couldn’t tolerate it anymore cause it really did cause me to have excess mucus. I miss it, so have substituted muffins and protein bars, and smoothies for in between snacking.
@tdrell lovely to see your wee icon with you and your dog again 🙂
Sadly my niece Mimi went over the rainbow bridge at age 18 a few months ago🥲
Hope all ok with you….
thanks for those lectures from NJH. Very informative. It is difficult to maintain weight. I keep trying to gain weight but keep falling slightly under what I want to weigh. So my diet is often Oatmeal for breakfast with lots of nuts and raisins.
And a fruit bowl of bananas blueberries, papayas. Eggs. Lunch and dinners often a vegetable protein like tofu, seitan or tempeh, natto, kim chi and sometime fish with pasta or brown rice and a green salad and a steamed vegetables or stir fried. I come from a vegetarian diet but have to add fish or eggs. Most of my food is organic.
Im trying to get more muscle mass through protein and exercise. Our whole digestive system seems to be affected by MAC. Wish all of you the best.Thank you.
My daughter adds vegetable-based protein powder to her oatmeal, and to the oatmeal she serves to her active little boys. Also, consider adding some flavored, healthy oils or butter to increase calories - think lightly fried fish, tofu or veggies instead of steamed or broiled. Also beans are a great source of protein & fiber to add to stir fry or blend into smoothies.
