Newly diagnosed with stage 3: Should we call Mayo Clinic?
My husband got diagnosed with stage 3 pancreatic cancer today. So far hasn’t spread. I’m in Arkansas. They want to start him on chemo shrink the tumor that’s encased the arteries. Hopefully it shrinks. Then remove the tumor. My question is this… should I get him to Mayo now for the 2nd opinion or see if they can shrink it and see if it’s operable. And if not call Mayo then???

OK so the phone appointment went very well. they are going to try to get my husbands images and test results. she is supposed to call back today if she is not able to get them and then I have to do some legwork, gather them up and send them up to the Mayo Clinic If these facilities here do not have the capability of transferring it and it would be handed off to Dr. Truty. I almost cried when she told me that, it really gave me a lot of hope She did say if he accepts my husband… I didn’t ask yet, But I’m wondering what are some reasons he would not be accepted? I was going to ask when she called. I’m thinking if it was something that was truly inoperable or the cancer was spread way beyond.
Waiting for a call back from them! They received all my husbands scans and medical records Monday morning. How long did it take for them to contact you?
Within a couple of weeks as I recall. Keep me posted! Unfortunately I’m now dealing with metastasis to my lungs—- very early stages. A thoracic surgeon at Mayo has removed one nodule and the other will be removed in a couple of weeks. Just hoping they are just two rogue cells and that’s the end of it. What is comforting is that you know you are getting the best care in the world.
So sorry to hear that! I will be praying for you! And yes… that is a huge comfort.
Hi my sister had stage 3 pancreatic cancer. Dr Truty operated on her. I’d be more than happy to talk to you more if you want to message me on my privately
I would love that! Kinda want to know what to expect.
Vherzog, how are you and your husband doing? Did he start chemo?
Yes he did. He’s had his good days and bad days. This thurs is his last chemo session and then the first week in March he sees Dr Truty for scans and a diagnostic laparoscopy then we go from there! Very hopeful and praying we hear good news!
