Hi @athenalee
When you say you had a reaction to the Shingrix vaccine, can you please elaborate? I have that shot coming up and I would like to be prepared! 🙂
Thank you! Also, unrelated question...as a transplant do you eat cooked shellfish like shrimp, scallops, lobster, etc...or are they not the best for us? Thanks again
I felt like I had the flu for a week—weak, tired, nausea, achy. But I was pretty sick with liver disease and was also getting several other vaccinations around that time. It is pretty common though I think to have a mild reaction with the shingles vaccinations. Although as with everything, we all react differently!
I do eat cooked shrimp…but sadly no more scampi or cold shrimp. I don’t care for scallops, but I don’t see why not if they’re cooked and from a reputable restaurant or shop, same thing with lobster. Unagi (eel) sushi is awesome though and I do it because it’s cooked!
But, I would ask the wise food guru of the transplant world @loribmt to chime in with her insights…
I think we should start a cooking for transplant recipients Zoom series…I bet it would be popular!
@athenalee I love the idea of "Cooking for Transplant Recipients" series! Question- what's in "scampi" that's bad for us....is there something raw in the scampi sauce?" Any other sauces that are a no-no? As always, thank you!!
Oh, sorry my bad. Scampi’s the cooked dish. It’s the shrimp cocktail that’s usually raw.
@athenalee I LOVE your idea of a cooking Zoom gathering. Perhaps even once a month?
I’d be in. It’d be a great way to share recipes, tips, and have fun! I don’t have a paid Zoom account though, which we’d need. Since we wouldn’t charge anyone for attending do you think we could post it on Connect?
I have an account we could use. I'll check with @colleenyoung .
Great, thanks.
Wondering if there is a person with a heart transplant who has received the Shingrix? I am 5 years out and would like to get the vaccine. Thanks
Hi @cburch Welcome to Connect so congratulations on your Heart Transplant, yes I received my Shingles series of 2 shots a couple of years ago and I'm also a Heart Transplant recipient just celebrated my 4 year anniversary last month. I'm also glad I did as I currently just had a mild case of it with just a light rash and no pain or itching so definitely worth it. I watch my dear wife suffer with it a few years ago. But I would also advise you check with your team prior to getting it. I have heard of some who there Doctors did not advise it for reasons I'm not aware of. I personally had no problems with the shot except for a sore arm. Please let.me know if I can help with any other questions.
Blessings
