Just approved: Evusheld for the pre-exposure prevention of COVID-19
Does anyone have any more information on this just-approved by the FDA treatment for immunocompromised people? From what I am reading, it seems very exciting. Boy, what I wouldn’t give for a bit of protection from the scourge virus!

Hi @codered032 😊 You are very welcome!! It's not easy for any of us to keep up with the latest information since things are changing so quickly, along with the virus.... Alpha, Beta, Delta, Omicron....
I hope you are doing well! Is everything going okay for you?
Yes things are well. Since my diagnosis of MCD in late 2019 all I could focus on was my labs and what I needed to learn about my health. I have learned so much from this website and people who are willing to share personal experiences. Then COVID-19, vaccines etc. has been overwhelming. I decided to take a break from the dark cold days in Ohio and vacation in sunny Florida. I am still quarantining, and keeping in touch with this website. I am practicing meditation and focusing on enjoying every day. I am focusing on being grateful for the small things in my life. Thank you for reaching out to me, it means that someone is thinking of me. I hope that life is treating you well and that today you too will have peace.
@codered032 I am so happy you decided to go see sunshine, meditate (and continue to stay safe in quarantine). I am hopeful that this Omicron surge will go through in the next couple of weeks and maybe we will be able to enjoy a lull in infection for the Spring. I am definitely getting covid fatigue!! Enjoy your vacation and let's talk again soon! 😊
Vermont. I have a request, see attached, in with my primary. I found the info on our state Covid website, under info/alerts for physicians.

Hey @hello1234, have you checked with your transplant team to make sure it’s ok we take Evusheld?
Hi @athenalee 💃 Yes, my transplant nurse said the hospital is developing guidelines and I will be notified through the patient portal when available.
On the latest John Hopkins Transplant webinar, the doctor explained that the vaccine is a superior protection, but for patients that the vaccine does not work, Evusheld is the next best thing to provide some "first line of defense" antibodies. (no T and B cell action)
John Hopkins has a clinical trial going on to see if they can have better success with the vaccine by lowering the immune suppression and then give the vaccine. I will be curious to see the results.
Did you message your transplant nurse for their approval on Evusheld? Have you heard anything more about Evusheld?
Today I received this message from my Nephrologist. I am on the west coast so things may be different out here. “Thanks, Liz. I have talked to colleagues here and they said that only 24 doses were delivered to Oregon and it is only available for people who are in the hospital. What I have heard is that it is being administered to people who have received a fresh transplant or bone marrow transplant. It is not available for administration to people who are in the outpatient setting. I wish I could say that it will be available to you, but at this point it's not clear when it will be more widely available.”
I agree that it is very limited, but a friend of mine who is immunosuppressed due to meds for autoimmune diseases received a dose earlier this week. I’ve submitted the necessary paperwork to my primary for her to complete. Once that is done, I would need to have a negative Covid test and then the forms can be sent to the regional hospital. I’ll receive an appointment and go in for the injection. At least that’s what happened for my friend. I’ll keep everyone apprised!
Thank you so much, AthenaLee. I hope it goes well. Would you be able to share the paperwork? Maybe I can convince my Nephrologist to push things a bit. I hope all goes well for you.
Here you go @lizzy102, best wishes and be strong!
