Has anyone gone from having Alimta (Pemetrexed) to getting Docitaxel? I'm wondering how much worse the Docitaxel is? Thank you.

Hi @carlies, fellow members @manorbier @reibur1951 @loula may have experiences with Docetaxel to share with you.
Have you switched treatment drugs now? How is it going?

Hello I have been taking taxotere and before that I was taking taxol, the taxol was pretty easy to get through but the taxotere gave me the worst yeast infection in my mouth and down my throat I could not talk right because my mouth hurt so bad, also had yeast infection in my private area. by my 2nd round of this drug I ordered clotrimazole 10 mg and also have a mouth wash lido/nyst/sod chl that I use four times a day and bought some monistat 7 for the private area. and it has helped still get mouth sores but the mouth wash is doing its job. also the last treatment I sucked on ice chips and iced my feet. I hope this helps you and I pray you get through this treatment. It is a good drug for cancer so hang in there take it day by day and if you are tired sleep we will make it through this .

Thank you, Cynde/Loula. The doc has also mentioned Taxol. I believe he said it's a pill form? Haven't heard Taxotere mentioned - yet. Fingers crossed it won't come up. It doesn't sound 'fun'... Best to you. Carlies

I'm supposed to start docetaxol the 19th. I'm nervous about side effects, also. I'm getting discouraged and wonder if it's worth it. I'm having a bad cancer day today.

What I can say to that is: Be glad you have options. I know it sounds twisted, but be glad there is something for you to try. The doctors wouldn’t give you this if they didn’t think you’d handle it. (This is not the case ‘here’.) I’ve heard from an outside doctor, there ARE people who don’t have many side effects from docetaxol. You are entitled to have a bad day! Give yourself time to process those feelings and then go back to your positive attitude self. 😉

Rubysue, you’re standing on the same spot where so many of us along our cancer journey have stopped. We wonder if it’s worth it, do we go forward, do we take the meds.

Having come out on the other side of my laborious trek, I say yes! A resounding yes. Keep moving forward and get this treatment started. Of course you’re nervous about side effects. And there will be some. There will also be ‘bad cancer days’. But you know what, you take them one day at a time. Some days you take them 5 minutes at a time. But you push yourself along by staying positive and staying active and keeping a sense of humor!

If you don’t go forward with this battle, if you don’t take the docetaxol, you’ll lose before you start! To keep walking on the face of this planet you need to be the victor over this cancer. And to do that, you face it head on by taking the meds prescribed and have faith in your cancer team to help you through this.

What scares you most?

Lori,
Thank you so much for your inspiring words. I have been at a low point all week... you helped more than you know. I will move forward. I'm in a lot of pain with Mets to my hip and spine, which doesn't help. Starting round two of radiation this week.
What am I most afraid of? Leaving my kids and grandkids. I have a brand new baby grandson I haven't even met yet because they live across the country. I want to visit in the worst way!

I'm over my pity party now. Thank you again.
