Just Started Using Resmed 10 Airsense Because of Recall.

Hi @cece55, I was using a Dreamstation Go and replaced it with a ResMed AirMini when I found out about the Philip's recall. I hated the smaller hose the AirMini uses so I bought an adapter so that I could use any hose or mask with the AirMini. Mine is setup for the same pressure as my Dreamstation was - 8 to 18 and I usually run around 12. I have been using a ResMed AirFit F20 full face mask with a cloth comfort cover (https://cpapcomfortcover.com/) which I really like. It does allow some leakage of air around the edges at higher pressure but it doesn't affect my usage or event numbers. I tried using the new AirFit F30i full face mask that fits under the nose and it feels great for a few hours and then I experience what you do (I think) - puffs of air in your mouth which wakes me up and lifts the edge of the mask off of my face. I had to take it off and go back to my AirFit F20 full face mask during the night. I've ordered some comfort covers for the F30i mask but haven't received them yet. I'm hoping that will solve the problem of the air bubble in the mouth.

I used a humidifier hose and tank with my Dreamstation before I got the Dreamstation Go travel CPAP but it was causing more issues for me that it was worth so I stopped using a humidifier and never looked back. I think it really depends on how dry your home air is. You might want to give it a try without the humidifier just to see how it goes. At one time I thought my air pressure on the Dreamstation was too high (8 to 18) and I changed it to 12 but it didn't help so I put it back up to 18 for the high end.

When I was down in the dumpers just starting, my sleep medicine therapist really helped me with some tips including the cloth covers for the mask and CPAP moisturizer for the CPAP nose. Have you asked your sleep medicine doc or PA if they have any suggestions?

I was using a RESMED during a recent hospital stay. My gosh it was blasting air through my nasal passages on the same setting as my RESMED at home. I had to disconnect the thing because my nasal passages were in pain. Sometimes this happens at home but only when it doesn't have a good seal and it ramps up to the maximum pressure. I tried to figure it out since I didn't have much else to do. The head gear was different but both split the big tube into smaller tubes which led to each nostril. I don't think the one in the hospital ramped up. It seemed to go to the maximum pressure and stayed there. You said yours ramped up though.

I never used Philips but ResMed Airsense 10 from the beginning. I thought it would be very uncomfortable, but found that I can sleep with it without any problem. I think this brand is more popular here in Canada. My setting for air is 12 with initial ramp.from 6. My humidifier setting is 7 at home with room temperature around 22°C (71°F). I find the humidifier setting needs adjustment depending on ambient temperature; it needs to be lowered if the temperature is lower (e.g., while camping). Otherwise water condenses in the tubing and the air gurgles waking me up. My hose is not heated. Also do not fill water to the brim.
It is important to adjust the straps at the beginning of each night, if leak is noticeable it will disturb my sleep. I use full mask F20 - with the partial one I couldn't even breathe, it choked me!

Hello @tomek, Welcome to Connect. I switched from the Dreamstation Go to the ResMed AirMini which I really like. i had to by a hose adapter but it works great. I stopped using a humidifier a year ago because I slept better without it and could breath easier. I also have tried a lot of different masks but the only one that gives me consistency is the ResMed F20 full face mask. I did find that a cloth comfort cover (https://cpapcomfortcover.com/fits-airfit-and-airtouch-f20-full-face-mask/) has helped me a lot with some of the CPAP nose issues. I do have some leakage but I've found that have a little leakage is not that big of a deal for me. I also adjust the straps most nights like you mention.

When I first received my CPAP machine it was a Phillips, which I used for about 6 months. I found an article one day about the recall, and that same day my Sleep Doctor called me and told me to quit using it! I was having a lot of issues with that machine, since I got the new one, my lungs feel better, and the pulmonary doctor said my lung function has improved. I signed with an attorney about the law suit with Phillips!

I’m still waiting for my recalled replacement…… but wondering how can I switch to the RESmed. I haven’t used anything since august2021. A few weeks ago I had an inpatient sleep study. They woke me after two hrs to apply Cpap for the final2 hrs of the test. Now I have to wait til February for appt with sleep dr to get the official results of moderate sleep obstruction (is this the same as sleep apnea?). Medicare already covered the first 13 months of the Phillips. Will I have to start again (with Medicare, or will they even cover a second machine?) if the dr. changes to the RESmed? Sorry for all the questions!

@susie333, You have some good questions but I'm not sure what the answers are for sure. It sounds like you were already diagnosed with sleep apnea and using a Phillips CPAP that was recalled and you are still waiting for a replacement. I registered 2 Phillips CPAPs for the recall, a Dreamstation and a Dreamstation Go portable CPAP. I stopped using both of them shortly after the recall notice went out and I went back where I purchased the Dreamstation through Medicare which was Mayo Clinic Rochester. My Phillips CPAP was 2 years old and was already paid for through a Medicare contract. I ended up paying out of pocket for a new ResMed AirMini CPAP which I really like.

I'm not sure what the Medicare policy is but I would recommend going to the medical store where you purchased the CPAP since they will have your prescription and info and can probably help you deal with Medicare. What does your sleep medicine doctor say, have you discussed it with them?
