Covid and AFib Connection?

Posted by cece55 @cece55, Oct 8, 2021

Hello Everyone,

I am curious and would like to ask this group a question. I have AFib but had not had an event for over a year except for last November. In early February of this year I took the Phizer Vaccine for Covid and had several Afib events with one lasting over a month even with cardioversion. I ended up having an ablation in May and the electrophysiologist found an enlarged and scarred atrium.

I have been doing well and am still on Flecainade, Metoporal and Eliquis. He is about to take the Flecainade away. It is time for my booster shot and I am scared that it will put me into Afib again. My Electrophysiologist and Cardiologist at Mayo said they don't feel that the vaccine had anything to do with my Afib events starting up again.

Has anyone here experienced this? I am debating whether or not to cancel my appointment next week or just take the shot. My doctors said it is better to take the booster than to get Covid.

Thoughts?

Thank You...Blessings to all of you during this trying time. CeCe55

Would you tell us what intestinal problems you experienced after the Pfizer vaccine? Thank you.

I had variations in my stool nothing extreme but also some cramping in my intestinal area.

I had an ablation last October and no AFIB events until July. Covid vaccines were in March and April. I wondered also about a connection, but from what I have researched, it's better to the the vaccine than have the COVID.

This happened to me also. I never considered the possibility of the vaccine until others started posting.

Good Morning Everyone,

Thank you for all your posts and experiences. I am the one who started this post and I promised I would keep you up to date on getting the booster and my experience.

I received the Phizer booster at Mayo on Thursday and so far so good. 🙂 I had the most minor of side effects, a very mild headache in the middle of the night and woke up fine. I feel like I made the right decision for me and will keep you in the loop as the weeks go by.

Blessings for a wonderful holiday season.

Thank you so much and I'm glad to hear the vaccine experience has been uneventful.

Sorry for your reaction. I have A-fib but had no reaction right through my booster (Moderna). I cannot, however, have any more ablations as I am severely allergic to the silicone on the patch that is used. I broke out not only on my chest but all over my legs.

I had astra zeneca 1st and 2nd vaccinations and after the first dose I had afib quite bad and heart flutters. Now I am left with the decision of whether to have the booster Pfizer or not. I was diagnosed with Afib in 2017 and with Equilis and Bisoprolol it has been in control. But lately I have been having extra heart beats, like something jumping in my heart, and what sounds like tremor. Consequently I am very worried to have the booster just like you. I know any medical professional will advise to have it but the fear of having trouble with my heart again puts me off. I also read that one can have myocarditis, another concern on top of it all. Any advice please. I would like to know if anybody out there has had any of the symptoms above. Many thanks.

The myocarditits has been mostly or all young men, and mild. It is rare. https://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Post-vaccine-myocarditis-in-young-people-is-rare-16679450.php

Sorry about your afib and flutters. I think COVID would cause you more problems than the vaccine.

Thank you for this valuable info. It is quite reassuring. I agree that catching covid will be more troublesome than the vaccine. I am having the booster on the 14.
