Heat Intolerance for 21 years following tonic clonic seizure.

Good evening,
Do you have a Seizure Disorder?There’s no doubt seizures can raise your temperature temporarily after a seizure but it should go away within a day or two. How soon after the seizure did you start to undergo this phenomenon?
I have never heard of it changing your physiology causing the symptom your experiencing.
The larger a person is the more perspiration the body needs to cool it down. If you are thin this situation is even more perplexing.
I have talked to countless seizure patients and never heard of this complaint.
I have a friend who never had a seizure but who is always hot, she’s actually worried about spontaneously combusting.
Do you have a fever?
Do you perspire when you’re just sitting or do you have to be active?
I wonder if an Endrochrononologist could help.
Have you had a thorough check up recently? It wouldn’t be a bad idea. Sweating is a sign of numerous illnesses.

Thanks for asking me about this. In addition to the loss of my superior laryngeal nerve, this is so hard to live with. I am 4'10", weigh 105 now. Since seizure, one only I have sweated and been uncomfortably overheated all the time. My core body temp remains somewhat lower than 98.6°. This summer I livedat the lake. I became aware of this perhaps 2 years after the event. In 2000. Folks won't dance with me because my body is wet with swest
Lots of cognitive issues as well. For 4 yrs they thought I hsd M.S Docs do not listen.

Hello. I have been dealing with heat intolerance ever since I found out my thyroid is low. I also have a Vns and up until about 8 months ago I would only have complex partials. Now I’m fainting.

Hi Jane,
I don't understand how one seizure could cause the heat intolerance you describe. Are you got hot all the time regardless of season & however you dress?
I assume you are receiving hormone therapy. Are your Thyroid tests normal? What seizure medication/s do you take?

My thyroid is a lil low. I take Aptiom, lamictal, Onfi and the thyroid medication.

Hi again Jane,
I heard that some Anti-convulsants can cause Thyroid hormones to vary. I read hyperthyroid can cause sensitivity to heat and excessive sweating, and people with hypothyroidism may struggle to keep warm.
My Mom had low thyroid and her doctor had her take vitamin D. Have you had yours checked? Has your doctor offered to increase your Thyroid medication?

You mean an idiopathic seizure?
Idiopathic just means of unknown origin. It's not a specific type of seizure. If you mean Tonic-Clonic seizure that’s what used to be called Grand Mal which are generalized seizures.

Thank you for reaching out. I have also read the same. My epileptolgist isn’t the one who caught my hypothyroidism but yes I do have low vitamin d. I do take supplements for it. Since I have VNS I have also read it can cause heart rate to drop. I did call my epileptolgist and tell them I need to see a endocrinologist
