Anyone have experience taking Bupropion ?

Posted by fate @fate, Nov 17, 2021

Starting a new medication for MDD and GAD is something I swore not to try again. Over time, I venture to say I have tried it all. I only got better by going off meds. Yet here again out of desperation I consented to give Bupropion (Wellbrutin) a try. Research tells me it effects dopamine reuptake as well as norepinephrine. Any advice or experience appreciated.

Bupropion / Wellbutrin is my med for the past 10 years. LOVE IT! I take the 12 hour version (SR) in the AM. Do not take the 2nd dose at night as it impedes sleep.

Hello,
Wellbutrin has been the best drug I have ever been on (and I have been on many that did not help).
I would advise you to tough it out for the beginning if you can. I always feel 'off' when I increase my dosage and when I started it after going off. I have now been on it for 8 years. I was off work for 2 years because of depression before this pill. Now I am completing a masters degree and run a successful business.

When I first started on the drug and when I have had increases it made me feel 'unreal' and dissociated. It sometimes increased my anxiety, ocd, and anger. This always levelled out after a few weeks. CBD oil helped.

I really credit this drug for helping me get my 'spark' back after a terrible major depression. It helped with my sex drive, motivation, and energy levels. The 2-3 weeks of feeling weird was well worth it.

Keep your eye out for signs of feeling very aggressive over the long term. My psychiatrist advised me that this can be a sign of a bad reaction to the medication. When this happened to me, he switched me from the off-brand label to Wellbutrin. I was also on seroquel at night for sleep and ativan for anxiety, you may need something to help you sleep at first.

I am taking Wellbutrin in addition to Celexa. I’ll never leave them. Combined I stay calm, almost placid & don’t worry about much. Everyone is different & it may take a lot of time to find the right medication & combos. I’m not nearly as energetic (read ‘hyper’) & miss my old energy levels but not enough to change anything about my regimen. When I don’t get as much done today, there is always tomorrow.

I took Wellbutrin for 6+ years back in my late 30’s-early 40’s, then it just stopped working. Depression runs in our family, but the same Rx meds did not work the same for my mother, or even my sister due to various allergies, sensitivities, and/or also having different health conditions.

I too now am experiencing increased mood changes with age and am looking into switching Rx’s yet again after 8 years. I just saw a reference to Genesight in another post that offers a cue-tip swab test to help narrow down which depression, anxiety, or pain meds work best or worst for you based on your genetic makeup. Am getting ready to try this myself. Maybe this might helpful as well? https://genesight.com/product/
