Anyone have experience taking Bupropion ?

Posted by fate @fate, Nov 17, 2021

Starting a new medication for MDD and GAD is something I swore not to try again. Over time, I venture to say I have tried it all. I only got better by going off meds. Yet here again out of desperation I consented to give Bupropion (Wellbrutin) a try. Research tells me it effects dopamine reuptake as well as norepinephrine. Any advice or experience appreciated.

I've been taking Wellbutrin for many years starting when my husband had cancer. I had to increase the dose after he died, then reduced the dose years later only to have to increase again after other traumatic events - 2 sons have died, home fire with complete loss, more losses than is helpful to go into just to say that the depression following all of it just persisted. I did wean off it this past year after it had been 3 years since the last son died only to find out just how low I felt and how lost I felt and displaced without the life I used to have. I have remarried and have a very nice life but I still have a broken heart. I haven't been willing to do SSRIs because I know just how hard they are to get off and the side effects aren't worth it. The Wellbutrin works well for me. To me it's about the quality of life. I want to have some quality as best I can. I do still have a daughter and 3 grandchildren, a wonderful husband and surprisingly, my health.

First I’m so sorry to hear about everything that you are going through. I tried antidepressants off and on for years. One I tried had suicidal ideation and one put 60 pounds on being a person that has a eating disorder the weight gain threw me in to an even more dark place.
I was give a prescription for Wellbutrin so many years ago and it’s been the first and only antidepressant that has worked for me. 30 or so years with it and a anxiety med has helped me through many deaths in my family and breakdown of marriage of 40 years. I would hate to think I had to stop this med it’s been great my weight has been good no eating disorder no other bad side effects it’s good to me. Give it a try I think it will help you a lot . Again I’m so sorry for the loss and trauma in your life God bless you

I've only been on bupropion for maybe 3 years. I have to take several meds that cause sleepiness and I was falling asleep a huge portion of my time. Face on the keyboard. Bupropion is an energizing drug. I take it in the morning and rarely feel sleepy anymore. I'm thankful for it.

If I end up having to do an anti-depressant, I think this is what I'm going to ask for. I have covid about 2 months ago and I've ended up with adrenal surges and anxiety that wakes me up every morning. I tried Prozac for 9 days and it was the worst experience of my life, after stopping that is when the surges started, but it's been 5 weeks since I stopped that so I don't think that was withdrawal from that. Never had anxiety before and I'm 58. Hopefully, if I can get a little relief I can get to living again.

I understand. Anxiety and panic attacks are enough to drive anybody to depression along with multiple illnesses. I’m 60 and Persons who have never had one don’t understand . It’s not something you can ‘ just get over it’ which is what I’ve heard a lot. Yes give Wellbutrin a try let me know how your doing please all the best 😊

Hello,
Wellbutrin has been the best drug I have ever been on (and I have been on many that did not help).
I would advise you to tough it out for the beginning if you can. I always feel 'off' when I increase my dosage and when I started it after going off. I have now been on it for 8 years. I was off work for 2 years because of depression before this pill. Now I am completing a masters degree and run a successful business.

When I first started on the drug and when I have had increases it made me feel 'unreal' and dissociated. It sometimes increased my anxiety, ocd, and anger. This always levelled out after a few weeks. CBD oil helped.

I really credit this drug for helping me get my 'spark' back after a terrible major depression. It helped with my sex drive, motivation, and energy levels. The 2-3 weeks of feeling weird was well worth it.

Keep your eye out for signs of feeling very aggressive over the long term. My psychiatrist advised me that this can be a sign of a bad reaction to the medication. When this happened to me, he switched me from the off-brand label to Wellbutrin. I was also on seroquel at night for sleep and ativan for anxiety, you may need something to help you sleep at first.

I have also recently been prescribed Wellbutrin for anxiety and depression. I have been taking antidepressants for years and adding to see if it helps with motivation, mood etc. Hopefully, I can back off some of my other meds. Good luck to you and keep in touch with your progress.

I have never gotten past 8 days on Wellbutrin by itself, maybe I will try touching it out for 2-3 weeks to see if I can drop the Cymbalta.

Gave me terrible anxiety, which is a common side effect. Had to stop it.
