Have hematuria. Trying to find cause.

Hi, @nbrud. Following up my posting above in August 2019, I hope my experience includes some comfort for you. First our differences. On my twice-a-year hematuria episodes, my urine turns light pink, not very dark. Nor have I had urinary tract infections. I had a large piece of prostate removed by a TURP procedure. My cystoscope results after that have been recorded regularly to ensure that the papillary tumors originally discovered have not returned. Finally that surgery was performed 12 years ago, but during the intervening period my only experiences have been regular cystoscope examinations and occasional hematuria. So your mystery and mine are similar in this respect: My urologists can't pinpoint where the blood is coming from, but advise that infection in the bladder and/or urinary tract often result in mild hematuria over time -- it could be leakage from some of the many blood vessels in the area. When I originally noticed it, I made it an issue for each of my visits with my urology team, who advised me not to worry unless the blood in the urine becomes "frank" -- undiluted and solid colored, hopefully red. So I have not worried, since my episodes have all been diluted blood. Adding to Amanda's question, how long have you been taking Bactrim? Could your hematuria be connected to Covid-19? Martin

Thank you for your response. At this point the mystery remains. Urine is very dark color. No prostate issues that I know of. Bactrim is because of recurring UTI issues. I think I need to a more sophisticated urological facility, rather than a urologist in solo practice.

Hi @nbrud. There's a mid-course you might consider. Get a second opinion from another urologist, even one practicing alone. You might confer with your present urologist about that (without giving him veto power over your choice). Martin

Of course a second opinion is in the cards. I have a follow up with the urologist later this week, and will then make a decision. Problem at this point is who, and where?

Hello, my post is similar to your concerns, I have been presenting with right flank pain and hematuria with normal biopsy but positive antibodies that could point to an autoimmune disorder. As of right now, my doctors are thinking the two are unrelated and have diagnosed me with Loin Pain Hematuria syndrome. It is a depressing diagnosis, but you still might want to look into it.

..sorry not sure if right section as I had commented on blood in urine and just noticed today that a side effect of Tylenol and some other pain meds is blood in urine/bladder..... haven't noticed this comment elsewhere unless missed it....but when I take just one Aspirin the next day shows microscopic blood on my urine test strip then goes away next day til next Aspirin ????

I am experiencing my second bout with hematuria. I have had a sonogram, MRI, and a set the scope and they found nothing. I was told this is good news because cancer can cause hematuria. My wife and I hope to travel on a six week vacation including three weeks in Brazil. My concern is if this would be inconvenient. Question: has anyone traveled and Experience hematuria while they were on vacation? We hate to cancel a vacation we had planned but will do so if necessary. If anyone out there has traveled with hematuria, let me know if it is just an inconvenience, or perhaps some thing that one should not travel with. Thank God for this site, and for those who read in response to this posting!
