Neuropathy symptoms are worse when I sit or lay down: Anyone else?
My problems are worse when I sit or lay down. I now work standing and limit sitting or laying watching tv. When I wake up my arms have fallen asleep. This started 3 months ago and the discomfort is all over but worse in my arms, legs and back. I have had all the tests but no one can find anything. I also have a rash on my neck. It has been there for a week. Doesn’t itch. My dr prescribed 30mg Zymbalta. I take it prior to going to bed. Anyone have similar symptoms?

Hello @pitepalten. I agree with @kobe4thewin. About a year ago, I developed hand tremors, along with numbness, tingling, and pain, which effect my extremities and back. I saw a neurologist DO who, having read my medical history (I had a recent liver transplant due to liver disease caused by an autoimmune disease), diagnosed me with Sjogren’s Syndrome which can cause PN. Labs confirmed this.
Also, everything I’ve researched, plus learning from other patients on Connect, is that exercise is key to helping control and adapt to PN. I walk 1-3 miles day, dance, and try to move when I’m standing and waiting, cooking, etc.
Mine are much more pronounced:
-later in the day
- when sitting and lying down
-when I go to bed at night
Interestingly, they are less pronounced when
-I awaken during during the night
- I get up in the morning
My neuropathy is worse standing! My buttocks hurt after walking 50 feet! Doctors given up! Could be from chemo 8 years ago! Gabapentin helps 1800mg a day! Sitting very long makes it worse! Also have colostomy which is doing good! Anyway, move as much as possible!
Indeed, being active results in less noticeable nueropathic distress. I believe that relaxed muscles enable and accentuate the wherewithal to 'feel" the distress.
My peripheral neuropathy symptoms ( arms and legs also become achy) increase dramatically when I lie down to go to sleep at night.
My numb feet only bother me in the evening and when I am in bed.
Walking an hour in the evening and taking l theanine 1 hour b4 bedtime helped me.
What is your hight and weight?
Hi there! Yes, my SFN is always worse when laying or sitting in certain positions. I asked my Neuro and he was unsure why and millions of MRI’s didn’t find a spine issue. My arms also go numb sometimes at night. Like most have said, movement helps. Also, I stretch every morning and every night and make sure I change positions frequently if I know I will be sitting for a while. I’ve worked with PT for years and strengthening my back and core muscles has helped with the numb arms, I just have to stay on top of it or I slip back to numbness. I have noticed the more I move during the day the better symptoms are when laying down. It’s a constant battle but one I’m willing to fight! Hope you can find relief and calm soon!
Yes, Sitting or laying down on my back for more than a few minutes increases feelings of numbness in my feet. Taking gabapentin.
