What's outside of your picture window today?

Posted by John, Volunteer Mentor @johnbishop, Nov 25, 2020

As we get ready for the real winter to show up and COVID-19 still playing a major part in our lives I like to spend moments of my day de-stressing about what's going on in the world today. All I have to do is look out the window and observe some of natures beautiful creatures, how they interact and ponder how small it makes my troubles seem. Sometimes I may even get the opportunity to take a photo or two. How about you? Anything going on outside of your window(s) that you want to share?

For those members that have the ability to size your photos before you upload them to the discussion, may I suggest using the following sizes:
– 500 x 335 pixels (landscape)
– 210 x 210 pixels (square)

While we’re talking birds, these guys were pretty much in my face all morning! Beautiful but wear a hat and don’t look up! 😏

Sometimes your window doesn't offer a view you want to see! Due to efforts to clear old-growth forest above our acreage over 20 years ago, our pretty little creek is now a huge marsh that floods whenever we have a storm. This is the earliest and worst so far, and water running off the hill kept coming into the back of our house until I not only increased the depth of the existing surface ditch but added a couple more. I HATE having the pantry floor an inch or more deep in water!!!! Yesterday, I waded across and bought a wet vac and lugged it back across, only to learn that my ditching efforts had paid off and the water was slowly receding in the pantry. Prepare for the worst, so that you may get the best!

Oh my word, what a pickle that is. I am glad to hear it is draining.

Crazy that, after over five months without any measurable rain ON THE OREGON COAST(!!!!) and being on alert for fire evacuation, that we're now seeing all the rain we had wished for all spring and summer! Today, the creek on our place has dropped quite a bit, is more easily wadeable, thanks to the City having pumped out a large basin downstream plus a halt in rain today that stopped the waterfalls coming off the hillside above our house. Imagine: an entire day where I haven't had to mop or try out the new wet vac! More rain is due at any minute, however. I'm cautiously optimistic that I may be able to drive my car out in a few days...hate not having a car. Then, I know that for weeks the driveway will be under water or so soft I can't drive on it, so I'll be parking a quarter-mile away (nearest solid wide spot), carrying groceries across the creek and up the hill to the house. It seems that the hill gets steeper and longer every winter...how does that happen?

I know you guys up north got slammed with water, I am praying for solid ground for you! Here we are still in an extreme drought and almost 70 degrees, down south.

Since my mom’s lung cancer diagnosis in early July, we love watching the little squirrels, chipmunks and birds out her windows. It gives her something to watch besides the phone or tv and she has always loved animals♥️

Tonight cold front moves in to disrupt this week of unseasonable warm weather. This is the view that met me at the park this morning.

@rosemarya, and all...Looks like a postcard. Thanks for sharing your colors. I don't have much but shades of green, lots of flowers still blooming, and normal stuff for us. I miss the beauty you see out your window. But, not enough to share the winter weather. It's been lovely here this week, in the '60-'70s, with low humidity and no rain for several days. I actually want it to rain so I don't have to water my plants and lawn. Can't be happy, I guess...

I've missed all you friends. Not getting any messages anymore Hope it's not because no one loves me now, Something happened a few days ago and I don't get anything from Mayo Connect, not the daily digest or your messages or nuttin'...I feel lonely. Sent a message to Colleen, so all will be ok soon. She's such a doll.

Spending more time downstairs now, feeling stronger every day. I've lost some of my feathered visitors since Sept when I had surgery. I haven't been able to keep up the feeders as well, but now have everything clean and full of goodies. I got safflower seed for the first time. So far, no one is eating it~ why? I hope someone, finches or chic-a-dees or whatever. I think squirrels don't like safflower...But, today I had cardinals, chic-a-dees, doves, squirrels of course, no woodys, not many cardinals, no finch, etc. Will they come home or did I insult them???????

Wishing you all lots of blessings. elizabeth
