Glioblastoma: Could original scan have missed the tumor?
I had a cat scan done in late April that doctors said was unremarkable. By august my symptoms were worse with headaches being main complaint. I was sent for MRI where tumor wa found on front temporal lobe and diagnosed as glioblastoma grade IV. I was sent for surgery and that was followed by radiation and chemo pills nightly. My question is I have copies of the original cat scan and one image in particular leads me to think the original reading may have missed the tumor 3 months earlier. I am going to attach the image I question and wondering if anyone can see what I see and think maybe it wasn't unremarkable after all. Thank you for you input ahead of time.

Hi @sanmagoo326, welcome. You'll notice that I moved your question to the Brain Tumor group https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/brain-tumor-support-group/ I did this so you can connect with other members talking about glioblastomas @mgreen616 @bjh369 @marykaym88 @suez5
Also note that I removed all the personal identifying information from your scan image to protect your privacy. Keep in mind that we are fellow patients and caregivers and not qualified to read CT scans.
San, how did surgery go? Were they able to remove the tumor with clear margins? Are you still doing radiation and chemo? How are you doing?
Surgery went well and finishing up my radiation and first round of chemo. My main question is I can see a white spot on right side of that image and was wondering if a doctor at the clinic can take a look see and see if that might have led to Ann earlier diagnosis. It took 3 more months before it was picked up via an MRI image. In those 3 months it had grown.
Thank you for removing my personal information
Colleen do doctors ever look at Ct images that are posted here?
I believe that my cancer was also missed on my pet scan. That has been one of my questions do our doctors look at the actual images or just the report? My oncologist I believe just looks at the report but that is a question I intend to ask. My husbands lung doctor always looked at the images while we were in the office. Not mentioned on my husbands CT report was slight pneumonia and an a small aneurysm on his aorta valve which apparently has not changed. We only knew this because he had an appointment with his carotid surgeon and he looked at the CT ordered by our oncologist. One can only try and be proactive but if we aren’t informed it is hard to make a decision. That was really nice of Colleen to forward your info on for you. Hope all went well.
