Male dealing with Constant Hot Flashes resulting in Sweating
Hi All -
First post here. I am a 37 yr old male that has been experiencing the same symptoms for over 6 years now. I still do not even have a diagnosis and it is very frustrating as my condition has had a material impact on my day-to-day life.
More times than not during the day (everyday), I have a burning/tingling sensation throughout my body but mostly in my core. The heat than causes my body to sweat. Mostly in my core and underarms. I could be naked in the middle of a winter storm, and while I would be freezing on the outside, on the inside I would still feel like I am on fire. The feeling starts around 30 seconds to 1 minute after waking up while still lying in bed. It tends to get better very late in the evening but never really gone.
When I go through an actual stressful situation where it would be normal to get that clammy sweaty feeling, than it'll pretty much look like I just took a shower. It’s almost like my body was already primed with something in it, and then here comes the real adrenaline rush that just crushes me.
I have gone through several endocrine and immunology tests with really none of my test levels out of what is considered a normal range. The one test that consistently comes back very high (usually double the normal range but one time 5x the normal range), is Complement C4A, which seems to be an inflammation marker. Based on my googling, it is most connected with Lyme disease and Mold Toxicity. I have had tests done for both of those which were negative.
Anyone have any ideas what this could be and what I am missing here.

@dschmidt91, it sounds like you're already good at searching the internet for answers. But just in case others would like some reference points, here are 2 relevant articles about hot flashes in men and the complement C4A test.

Women in perimenopause know the symptoms that you describe all too well. But I can imagine besides the discomfort, you are concerned what these heat flashes could be indicating about your health as a young man. You said that you've had several endocrine and immunology tests. I assume that testosterone levels were checked and are normal? Have there been any accompanying symptoms? Any life changes?
Hi Colleen and thank you for the response.
My testosterone levels in my blood have come back fine and in middle of the range. My FSH has come back at the very low end of the range (1.6 on a range of 1.5 to 12.4). I got some special tests ordered by a natureopath which western medicine is quick to dismiss which suggests my testosterone is low for my age based on a Urine test. The test is known as the Dutch Test.
I feel pretty worn down often but not sure that is connected. I do get plenty of sleep.
As for life changes, maybe 6 months prior, I moved to the suburbs from the city with my girlfriend (now my wife). Though that was stressful, I have experienced way more stress than that in my life.
Mayo Clinic has unfortunately rejected me but I feel like I need a team of doctors to hear me out and put there minds together.
Male Menopause ?
@dschmidt91 menopause it’s hot flashes and serious sweating can be annoying and frightening. You say you would like a team of doctors to listen to you and try to put things together. Are you being seen at your local hospital? Have you considered looking for a university teaching hospital or a regional medical center? Doctors at the larger hospitals can be more researched based and deal with more complex problems. Check the computer for a university in your state and/or google “medical centers of excellence.” You want one that deals in men’s health. Try this and see what you find. Will you get back to me and let me know what you learn?
Thanks Becky. Just have a hard time thinking is male menopause at this point as my blood tests for testosterone are all pretty good. Its the urine test that says otherwise.
I live in Long Island about 20 miles from NYC. Thanks for the tip on centers of excellence, but it looks like the two in the NY area are dedicated hospitals. NYU Sloan Kettering Cancer Center which is obviously for Cancer. And Hospital for Special Surgery which for Orthepedic Surgury.
I am thinking about going with Columbia University Irving Medical Center which is a top rated hospital.
Has doctor ever tested for TB?
Hmmm, do you have any other symptoms? Even vague? GI, pain, swelling, fatigue, lymph node swelling, chills??? Red flushing of the face?
Do you experience these same symptoms when on vacations? Were you out of the country over six years ago by any chance?
I’m hopeful you learned something and are doing better. I’m going through very similar stuff and your comment of “naked in a snow storm” yet with a core that’s burning up is exactly me, but with a sense of feeling very poorly/sick which you seem to also have. ?
I may be posting in the wrong group, I’m mostly just responding to your write up. I have had test on kidney, stomach, colonoscopy, blood work, with only small to no no finding. The Endocrine system has not come up in doctors discussions, but I do get testosterone shots every two weeks.
I’m 66, male, and was healthy and doing most anything I wanted to do, but in July 2022 I first started to sweat excessively with minor activity. This grew to having a core that is always hot, excessive sweating at night where (usually around 2am) I have to get up to change t-shirts, I’m incredibly sick feeling, and morning comes where again I’m sick feeling and have to change t-shirts because I’m soaked.
Morning is the worse, I hate the start of every day, no quality of life, tired all the time, brain fog, usually the 2 AM deal is complimented with such a high level of distress and heat that it takes hours before I go back to sleep. My Apple Watch backs up my awake hours.
I just don’t see many post that describe profuse sweating with Core Heat and sick/discomfort. My blood work shows CKD3a, a low platelet count but just a little low, otherwise not very remarkable.
Sweats without such discomfort would be no big deal, but sweats with extreme discomfort, core heat, extreme sick feeling, exhaustion, makes it hard to do anything of significance.
Hi @gt350, Unfortunately I don't think @dschmidt91 is still following Connect since their last post was in 2021. Did you see Colleen's reply to the members discussion at the top where she referenced 2 links that might be helpful? - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/comment/653815/.
