7% saline continues to deliver.

Here I am, again singing the praises of 7% saline solution, the introduction of which into my daily lung treatment, correlates convincingly with the disappearance of predictable twice yearly episodes of acute (febrile) bronchitis requiring antibiotic treatment; nineteen months now without a flare up. My apologies to any English teachers on the forum; can’t seem to learn when to end a sentence. Don

My Doctor gave me this formula for saline water in 1973 I have no idea what percentage it is but I have been using it with no problems. 1 pint of distilled water 1 teaspoon of Rock salt /ice cream salt non iodized salt. NOT table salt bring to a full rolling boil so the rock salt will dissolve. Make fresh daily. Hope this helps I was diagnosed with Bronchiectasis in 1973 after many years of not knowing why I was having so much trouble. I use the saline water in a warm mist nebulizer and an IPPB machine.

What is a IPPB machine? Where do you buy a warm mist nebulizer?

Just added Amazon selections for 7%…$39 to $69. It’s worth trying to nebulize it. It made the world of difference for me. No prescription necessary.

Thank you!
I ordered the 60 doses for $40...worth it for my health.

Are you working with a pulmonologist or an internal medicine Doc? I can't believe any pulmonologist would agree to this treatment.

IPPB is an older form of respiratory therapy machine, Intermittent Positive Pressure Breathing, that has largely been replaced by hand-held nebulizers, and spirometers and/or PEP (positive expiratory pressure) devices for managing asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis...
As for warm mist nebulizers, I am not familiar with their use in treating bronchiectasis, or for delivering meds other than saline. That would be a question for your doctor.

Thank you, Sue. I had not heard of warm mist or IPPB and thought it was a new therapy.

I just received an article from CF news today alluding to the benefits of 7% vs 0.9% Saline for young people with Cystic Fibrosis. Most of us in this group are older and do not have Cystic Fibrosis but in my view it gives more proof that 7% saline is very helpful to us as well.

Finally got a formula…MUSC (Medical University South Carolina) just sent this formula for 7% saline. I just tried it and it seems the same. I put mine in a glass mason jar that I’d sterilized, and I’m refrigerating it. Hope the file is readable.

Do you put just 1 small container in a nebulizer, what else is in the nebulizer? Distiled water?
