Pain by nose and eye when swallowing

Posted by emmie86 @emmie86, Mar 25, 2019

Hello around 16th months ago during a stressful time in pregnancy I developed an eye twitch for around 3 weeks. After it went away I was left with a a pain occasionally when I swallowed in the area between my tear duct and nose it happened no matter it I was eating drinking or swallowing saliva . My dr at the time said it would go away in time. However it has been coming and going for over a year now it’s worse I have a sharp pain above my right eye and down around the side of my nose to touch sends a excruciating nerve pain through the area even wind or cold air hurt it if I touch my lower jaw by my earlobe that also causes nerve pain this is all on my right side of face.

I again went to the drs and he is now saying chronic sinitis I’m on a nasel spray sinus, rinse, oral steroids, eye drops and so far no difference to the pain. I’m to go back when the steroids have finished. Painkillers have no affect on the shooting pains. I went for an eye health exam a couple of days ago and the dr found nothing wrong with my eye health or vision. I also had an endoscopic ultrasound in jan for an unrelated issue but from that I know my throat appeared healthy. I’m at a loss the medics look at me like I’ve lost the plot? And I’m anxious as dr google doesn’t help the only time I seem to be 100% pain free is when I wake up in the morning.

hello, @emmie86. Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Sorry to hear you are having to deal with such pain. That must be really tough. Here, in the Mayo Clinic Connect community, we are not medical professionals nor can we diagnose or give medical information.
I can however introduce you to @czechmate, @tuckerdoodle, and @huronshores, All connect members whom have mentioned sinus surgery.
Also, here is some information on sinus specialists that Mayo offers on their webpage. https://www.mayoclinic.org/departments-centers/rhinology-nose-and-sinus/overview/ovc-20426855

Hello thank you for the reply. No I have not seen any specialist as I’m in the UK a GP has to refer you so I need to finish the course of steroids before I return the them.

I was mainly just looking for people who had similar experiences and symptoms as so far the GP’s I’ve seem so not seem to understand my symptoms especially the pain on the side of my nose by my right eyebrow and the sharp headaches and pains I am getting on and off all day in this area even to touch here causes what I can only describe as nerve pain. I also get a similar pain touching the area below my right earlobe/top of neck. When ever I google all I get results of is sinus cancer which is not helping

Ask your physician about Trigeminal Neuralgia. Sounds exactly what I am experiencing and what I am being treated for. Good Luck. It is treatable.
