Prednisone Side Effects

Has anyone experienced severe muscle aches/pain and fatigue while being on prednisone for two consecutive prescriptions?

@kspowell Ahhh, loss of hair while on prednisone. Yes that happened to me, also. I had to cleaned the shower drain every day! But it was never so much that anyone noticed, thank heavens. Now that I’m tapering the steroid, hair loss has really diminished. Have faith, hair loss will stop!

Hi @kspowell, my hair got thinner and less curly on Prednisone, but it has not fallen out in clumps. My WBC increased slightly. I also have reddish marks on my skin that eventually turn brown. I never had those before. I'm still grateful for it as I have an autoimmune disorder and without proper treatment, the consequences would be dire. Good luck to you!

Here is some vital information about what you are talking about.
"Does hair grow back after stopping prednisone? Once people stop taking the medication, they may start to see hair growing back within 6 months. In most cases, hair will grow back by itself once a person stops taking the medication. People may be able to help hair growth with at-home treatments."

It seems to be a little thicker since my dosage is lower now.

Scientists need to come up with something like prednisone without the harsh affects. Technology is through the roof.....now its flying cars....yet they cant get medicine right, I will never get it!!!

The biggest problem with Prednisone is not only weight gain, but it raises real problems with bones and teeth. Bones lose density and the jaw bone density loss causes teeth to fail.. there are many studies in National Institute of Health literature.. one example is : Long-term high-dose glucocorticosteroid treatment may be suspected as causing profound marginal periodontal bone loss due to the immunosuppressive/anti-inflammatory effects and due to the osteoporotic side-effects.

@hmccarth5 yes, prednisone sure has it’s bad side effects! Ive been on prednisone for 3 1/2 years and now i have osteoporosis and cataracts. But, without prednisone, I’d be dead. As i taper off prednisone, I’m going onto Mycophenolate Mofetil, an immunosuppressant without the side effects of prednisone. But it doesn’t have the ability to knock out infections or inflammation like prednisone does. Prednisone is a lifesaver (but an evil one), to those of us with autoimmune diseases. So, we’re caught between a rock and a hard place.

The human body is complicated...I guess before Prednisone (developed in 1956) people who had Polymyalgia Rheumatica just endured the agony, and those with Giant Cell Arteritis had strokes and died. We have come a long way, but have further to go. By the way, short layered hairstyles make hair look thicker.

The human body is complicated...I guess before Prednisone (developed in 1956) people who had Polymyalgia Rheumatica just endured the agony, and those with Giant Cell Arteritis had strokes and died. We have come a long way, but have further to go. By the way, short layered hairstyles make hair look thicker.

Haha, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesnt, especially if one doesnt have a lot of hair!
