Metastatic breast cancer: Anyone else?

Posted by rae3 @rae3, Oct 6, 2016

Hello...I am new to this site. I had BC originally in 1989 with lumpectomy, chemo and radiation. After 4 months of pains, thought to be muscular from lots of tennis, xrays revealed cracked vertebraes in the spine and led to MBC diagnosis, to the bones. I have been receiving xgeva and faslodex injections once a month since February 2015. One round of radiation in August to the hip eliminated that pain by reducing the tumor. Just wondering if there is anyone out there in a similar situation and how are you doing??

@jacsmom

Confirming diagnosis this week. Found a distortion on r breast in September 3d mammogram, continues to find that I needed a mastectomy. Three lymph nodes removed from the armpit. Was to start chemo and then diverted to Pet scan. Found suspicious spots in my hips. Having a bone biopsy on Wed. The current plan is hormone treatment for 6 months, then chemo if not responding. The spots found were pin prick size.
Had lumpectomy 4 yrs ago on l side. Caught by surprise to reoccur.
Anyone here with Mba? Feeling a little scared and uncertain.

Jacsmom, I can imagine that you're feeling uncertain and scared to have the confirmation of metastasis. You'll see that you're not alone. Rae3: welcome to our group. I suppose not where you wanted to be after 16 years but ---. Anyway, I too am getting xgeva shots (every three months) and faslodex every month. My tumor markers are on the rise so my dr is looking into something else. Have an appointment next month so we should have a plan after that. Keep in touch and keep that good attitude.

I have never had any lesions in my liver. I just had a pet scan and they saw a spot on my liver.

I was diagnosed dec 2018 with Mbc. It is in my colon as well as some bones. My Ibrance stopped working now we are deciding on treatments to keep it from spreading. I hate this Im tired of always wondering what’s next. I have given it all to God and it has calmed me tremendously. Tell me more about your injections my dr has talked about these.

MBC has its own set of treats it brings to the day. I try to keep a sense of humor about this. I am glad your anxiety is lessened. I find the act of letting go and letting God is something that I have to practice daily. MBC treatments have come a long way in a short time. There are quite a few now. Can you tell me which injections you are asking about?

I had breast cancer in 2014, grade 3 with lymphovascular invasion. I had a double mastectomy, no chemo or radiation, hormone treatment only. With arthritis, osteoporosis and fractures, I have a lot of bone pain. How do we ever know to ask for a bone scan for MBC? I am sorry you are dealing with this!

For me it is simple, I go to my doctor and say I am having a lot of bone pain may I please have a bone scan. I am worried about the cancer coming back. My doctor is so good he will either just order it, or talk to me about what else he might do to check on that. The osteoporosis can cause bone pain as well, but if that is worsening then that is a signal from your body. How soon before you have a doctors appointment? What kind of doctor is monitoring you for cancer?

I finished 5 years of Femara and was basically told no need to schedule visits. COVID was a factor in me finding another doc. I am having so many other problems, I need to check in with an oncologist who provided a second opinion and I liked better.

Good for you, if you have a primary care doctor that you like, he could order that too. I would still ask to follow up at least annually with an oncologist. Please do ask for an answer to this bone pain, if it comes back negative, then celebrate. More information is never bad in my mind. Are you comfortable asking your primary care for it?
