Trying to find the right medications for my depression/anxiety

Posted by brit @brit, Jan 10, 2019

I have had depression for quite a few year now. I am in my 70's and found it harder to deal with. My psychiatrist has been working with me trying to find the best medication. So far no luck. He is very dedicated and does a great job trying to help. Right now I am takin 2 medications but they don't seem to do the
job either. They are Doxepin 25 mg and chlordiazepox. Help!

@brit put on some soothing music and empty your mind just listen to the music and good thought of the past ,ocean sounds, Mts. maybe walking in the woods or just sitting listening to a bubbling brook to calm your thoughts

@catcatanzaro60 - since you mentioned putting all your large plants around you in the winter and it's feeling like Florida, it reminded me of a thread on nature and mental health you may want to check out https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/nature-and-its-role-in-your-mental-health

My houseplants give me pleasure and
comfort during the cold, gray winter months. Nature has always been a vital part of my mental health. @lisalucier Thank you for the info.

@happythinkingma , I’ve been on Zoloft for 20+ years and have no sleep problems. I used to when I took my dose at night, but now I take it first thing in morning. Also, NO anxiety. I just feel better! Several times the docs have wanted me to change, but I think, if it’s working, why would I change!
Maybe you could also find out if there’s a sleep doctor or clinic near you. I went to one several years ago ( not because of Zoloft) and they worked wonders. I hope things get straightened out for you. It’s not fun feeling miserable. Please let me know how it all goes with your decisions. Becky

@darlene1953 i currently take 150mg. The doctor thought i should go higher, but I didn’t want to. All my sleep problems came back when i was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, so the doctor added 25 mg of seroquel. It’s an antidepressant that makes me very sleepy. Hope this helps
Are you worried about increasing doses or a sleeping problem?

Seroquel is an antipsychotic used off label for anxiety and depression. Do some research and be extremely careful with this med. It’s a scary one.

@sears thank you for your concern. I did talk to my doctor about those concerns and she said the dose is too small to be a problem. She and i have been friends and doctor/patient for a long time. She has been very caring in helping me thru my autoimmune disease. I promise, i’ll be careful!
